Post Hydro Turf
Looking to order some soon, but looking for pros and cons, advice....
should I just go with the molded groove and glue it in, or the stuff from Gato Trax with the backing?

Pros: soft surface is easier on gear, provides good traction, doesn't freeze, quieter than bare aluminum or wood. Cons: stays wet, stays filthy, prone to staining from blood and oil.

I've only had a duck hunting boat with hydroturf for one season. I would not go without it in the future. Eventhough it does tend to hold mud and take stains, you can make it look almost new again with a pressure washer. Simple Green or Laquer thinner (for really bad stains) will take care of the tough spots.

Mine was installed by Phowler with the 3M spray adhesive. The only thing that made it come up was an overnight gasoline leak (Blitz brand jerry can) into a seam in the hydroturf. When the gasoline evaporated, I was able to re-stick the affected area by just pressing it back down.

I bought the seconds directly from hydroturf. Used weldwood contact cement to put it in. It's holding good. I couldn't justify spending an extra 30 bucks or so per sheet for the backing. A gallon of contact cement is about 30 bucks and I had plenty left over after doing my whole boat.

I used black in my boat about a year ago and I love it. I keep my boat in a boat shed so I can't tell you if over time if exposed to the sun if it will fade. It cleans easily and the blood washes off easily. My dogs NEVER slip around when getting in or out when hunting. Hope that helps.

what about colors? What would go with nat gear the best? Wished they had a med to dark brown, I asked for the gray and drk gray samples, as well as the nat gear sample from GT!

I'm debating doing the same thing but just to the front deck of my boat for traction for the dog. Anyone have any pics? Thanks.
