Post GD Hull Owners
Was putting in some hydroturf over the weekend and was thinking of cutting open the bow and ripping out all the old flotation in there. It's all pretty much dry rotted, so I don't think I'm getting anything out of it. Took out the floor flotation about 3-4 years ago.

Pros and cons of doing?

Was thinking of cutting out the bottom panel and just leaving the top deck. Seems pretty stable and shouldn't cause any structure weakness?

alright man I just tried for about 15 min to find you the old review someone had on here where they took the foam out of their boat.... but I couldnt find it!

anyway Im sure someone will chime in but if I remember correctly the easiest way to remove that foam is with a pressure washer   Im sure its super messy but from what I remember it does the job fast! If I somehow come acrosss the thread Ill post the link on here.... good luck!

Smoke - I was thinking of cutting out the boxed in area of the photo below. Is there a reason why you went with the two access holes?2011-03-21_153717.jpg

Originally, I had 2 6 gal tanks mounted under there. I figured one hole for each tank, plus the piece in the middle would add some strength when bowfishing 2 people on the deck. Not sure if its needed or not, but that was my thinking.

I did it on mine also. I went the same route as SmokeEater829 and cut two access hatches. Pressure washer and a large shop vac is definitely the way to go. I'd recommend 3000 psi minimum on the pressure washer also. I used a 2700 psi pressure washer. It worked, but a little more would have been nice. Wear eye protection and expect to get covered in foam pieces. I have the extended front deck on my GD. The portion in front of the extended deck pops when someone heavy stands on it. It didn't do that with the foam supporting it underneath.

Mine was already done when I bought it, but the front was completely removed and was replaced with 1/8" diamond plate welded flush with the gunnels with a shorter piece broke into a 90 at the rear for strength. Never had an issue with support or "popping". Didn't look as clean as Smoke's but had plenty of storage & was probably alo easier to clean the foam out of.

Finally had sometime over the weekend to start and finish the project. I didn't have the balls to cut out the flotation in the back so maybe another day. While I had all the floors up I re-ran all my wires and fuel line in the runners and added a fuel/water separator to boot.

The Cut:

The Clean-out:

The Carnage:

Added additional braces and decked with alum panel then hydroturf.
