 Re: PD pros
Supposedly the new ones are louder... I sent one back in and they checked it out and said it was fine. Call Brian and let him know, he said somethin about putting a note in your file... Some make more noise than others.

 Re: PD pros
Lots of the time it is the skeg rattling. It is sandwiched on the lower unit and the bolts don't hold it very tight so it makes some noise. It will sound just like gear backlash.Check it out.

 Re: PD pros
My first pd (Sept 2010) made that gear slap sound on the original sea trial. There were only two or three hours on the motor. The dealer said that they just made that noise....Sure enough, when I sea trialed my second one (Nov 2010) two months later (only about four hours on the motor) it did it too. Same thing, it only makes that clacking noise when trimmed out and rolling. It does not do it in the muck or at mid throttle.
Engine now has 60 hours on it. Sound hasn't changed. It is unsettling, but supposedly normal.

 Re: PD pros
The reason its not as loud when you trim down is because its muffled by the water..............

 Re: PD pros
When I got the new style LU in 08 I noticed it seemed louder and had PD check it out. Said it was normal and I have never had any issues. But it was noticable different sounding than the 07 LU I had on it originally.

 Re: PD pros
I sent one back too. I wonder how many people sent them back in. Those fuggers are loud. I bought drove myself crazy trying to figure it out, but they say it's normal.

 Re: PD pros
Make sure to check the 2 bolts at the top of the cavitation plate as well. Those have a rubber bushing underneath and all that will loosen up over time and create some chatter.
