Post How fast should I be running?
I have 17x56 Phowler Extreme boat with a Pro Drive 36 on it. The load is a trolling motor, two optima batteries, and 6 gallons of gas. I only get about 21-22 mph. I think I should be getting a little bit better. What is your opinion on the situation?

Actually the average for a PD is 27.7

Those speeds do sound low, maybe one of the PD guru's can chime in. What rpm's are you turning at those speeds?

I run mine on a 18X54 Pro-Drive hull bone stock and with me, dog, battery, fuel, and trolling motor im getting 26.5 in deep water and 28 in shallow. What RPMs are you turning wide open?

I have a 36 PD on a 1748 Phowler and with about the same load, I can hit 27-28 all day at about 3800 rpms.

Maxxis 85Definitely not a barge there are plenty of people running the same motor on bigger boats. And my mistake it is a 17x48 phowler extreme hull. From tip to tip the prop measures exactly 12". Not sure about the rpms in neutral, but at max speed they are right at 3700 rpm.

Prop is a little worn out, and you're not turning enough rpms. Motor should turn 4200 in neutral out of the water, and 3900-4000 when you're running wot.

And some of it probably has to do with the piece of crap boat you've got it on

me by myself(190) 2 batteries, trolling motor, fishing gear, 9 gallons of gas and ice chest. i turn between 4000 and 4100 rpms. same load plus 2 more guys i run about 2800 rpms at about 24-25 mph. i've never clocked my speed by myself. i run mine trimmed extremely high i tend to hit the highest speeds that way.

Thanks for help guys. I guess I need to go ahead and break down and buy a new prop. One other question how do I adjust the governor to get more rpms out of the motor.

Deadbird8 had some pics of the screw on a horizontal you can check out. You just have to do a search for it

If you are standing behind your motor. there is a screw above the right side of your muffler. its a screw with a spring on it parallel to the muffler. tighten it to give yourself higher rpms. i would twist it about one turn then check you WOT rpms let off the gas and then check to make sure you idle didn't go up. Do that until you hit 4200

Post Re: How fast should I be running?
Thanks for the help guys I adjusted the rpms up 4200 wide open in neutral. That helped quite a bit. One more question, this past weekend I got my buddies to sit far back as I could and the boat ran much better. Should I try to move my gas tank to the back with my batteries. Just isnt much room in the back though with the batteries and the floatation boxes back there.

Just dont let them sit on the rake of the boat.

Too much weight in the front is a speed killer. Not sure how the rake on your boat is, but too much weight up high on the rake will make a PD a turd.
