 speeds?
Getting bout12 mph wanting to move up to 15. Ya'll think adjusting removing governor would make it. Tech broke at the moment will post rpms as soon as I can. 18hp Honda can't remember prop size 9x6??

 Re: speeds?
Prop selection is more likely to get you a few mph than messin with the governor - IMO
Cause if you are turning a 9x6 on that motor - you are nowhere near tapping the governor....
A 9x6 turning 3500 rpm pushes a boat 20 mph - FYI
A less aggressive prop with less pitch might get you the speed and power you want..... 9x3 - 9x4 - 9x5 are more appropriate for an 18 hp....
Measure your prop diameter carefully - they start out about 9 1/8" and at 8 1/2" are wore out and the best part of the blade profile is gone.... Also if you pull it off the pitch should be stamped into the back of the prop hub - if you are in doubt....

 Re: speeds?
Removing the govenor will hurt you in the long run. As your prop wears your rpms will increase and you will be running the risk of blowing up your motor. especially without a working tach.

 Re: speeds?
will not be running without tach new one order yesterday. If i do remove governor I will make a throttle stop at desired rpms Main reason thinking of removing governor would be for that little extra when needed watchful eye on tach run at what the engine was design for..guess a better question would have been increasing rpms by couple of hundred with good prop make the speed difference I am looking for? Dont want to sound like I am arguing or a now it all still border line greenhorn

 Re: speeds?
Bein a Honda do some head work(deckin, portin) and maybe some exhaust with a different prop you'll be on the right track!

 Re: speeds?
I saw this thread - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20380. All kinds of good advice on how to get all you can out of a longtail. I hope it helps!
