another tire question for u fe"s.......
i gots 20" rims on my '08 f-250 4x4. gonna need new tires eventually. i was wondering if i were better off getting tires and rims smaller or just suk it up and find sum all terrain tires for the 20" rims ?
i got that low tire sensors and stuff, and i like the look of the alum 20" stock rims.
i can't go much taller cuz of the garage height, but wide-er would be great.

Re: another tire question for u fe"s.......
Joel, if I remember correctly Ford states to not go down in rim size or it voids your warranty. I think it's total BS, but I'd be damn sure that's not the case if you have warranty left before I went down in rim size. If something drivetrain effs up on the truck, they are going to claim it's due to the wrong rim size. I'd just suck it up and stick with the factory 20's. You aren't going to be able to justify the savings in tires size for the additional cost of new rims. It's going to take several sets of tires to offset that extra cost. Plus, they generally eff up the low tire sensor on aftermarket rims and then NEVER work. Just my .02!

Re: another tire question for u fe"s.......
you may not be able to drop rim sizes. You will need to check the size of your brakes to for clearance. Your brake diameter may be 18", so that means you cannot go down rim size. I know on a dodge with 17" rims you cannot go to smaller rim size because the brake is 16' in diameter. I would just stay with stock rims and get new tires. but thats just my opinion

Re: another tire question for u fe"s.......
Keep your wheels and just get you some new tires. These days 20" tires are used on alot of O.E.M. vehichles. Go price you some 17 inch tires then price some 20's, there ain't that much difference.

Re: another tire question for u fe"s.......
oh, by the way Joel... if you are interested in going slightly larger, you can get a leveling kit for around $70 delivered. It will flatten out the front 'rake' of the truck. Just got one for mine, $72 delivered from Ebay (Auto Spring 2" front end lift)

Re: another tire question for u fe"s.......
i was just wondering about it. i have the goodyear wranglers[stock] tires on there now. i don't mind paying for good tires, i just didn't know what all options i had. thanks for the info on the brake size and the leveling kit. i never thought about that. looks to me like the front end is a little taller than the rear. i just don't want to go taller or the wife will destroy the garage. LOL just want wider so i don't cut down the yard as much. anyway, i appreciate the responses.

Re: another tire question for u fe"s.......
Ive got an 08 F250 Powerstroke Crewcab. The main costs other than piss-poor fuel mileage is the fact that I never have it. It is always in the damn shop- been there 3 weeks right now. The SOB is bone stock, all highway miles, and the cab has been off of it three times (1 primary turbo, 1 secondary turbo and down pipe, now high pressure fuel pump in the motor) and it has laid down on me 3 other times (sensors, DFP, radiator, etc). This doesnt count all the damn recalls and the front suspension that couldnt be aligned and had to be rebuilt when it came time for new tires at 50k miles.
Ford has sold me their last diesel ever. If its diesel, it will be 5.9 cummins- period.
Oh yeah, this time when it broke down, it was at 100,009 miles. Guess what, Ford told me to go Fawk myself on the warranty. That fuel pump is $3300 installed and no truck for 3 weeks. How's that for a raping?
Might want to dump that rig at 99k or sooner.

Thats why I will never get rid of my 7.3. They keep making the motors more complicated, which is becoming more headaches for the owners.

Re: another tire question for u fe"s.......
Tires nowadays are high like giraffe pussy nowadays. I need a set on my truck too. i am stepping up to 17" Hummer wheels on my 2500HD and boy the price is up there. I am going with the Toyo Open Country MT. It will cost bout $1350 for a complete set but supposedly the Toyo's have a good tread life and they are 10 ply rating. Good luck

Re: another tire question for u fe"s.......
Just get some big rig tires and that'll be the last set you have to buy for that truck.
