Post HSR 42. Question.
Alright in the picture where the vent is that says do not plug. I have fuel coming out of it in certain situations. running about 3/4 throttle and grab the rest of the throttle it spits gas out for a few seconds till the engine gets to a constant rpm and every now an then while running it'll have a light mist come out. Any idea on what the hell is going on it my float set wrong. I don't have gas coming out the overfill just there.

It is flooding.

Either your inlet needle is stuck, you have a piece of debris under the seat/needle, or you have too high pressure fuel pump.

No I dont have a flooding problem, and it only has the stock fuel pump on it. So probably debris I'll check that out thanks for the help

Yes you do have a flooding problem. It is just dumping externally vs into the throat of the carb.

BoatDr is correct. Check for debris in the needle/seat area first. If you have debris in there bending the float tab won't make any difference. Even if you don't see anything with the naked eye go ahead and blow it out with carb cleaner and then air. Only once you are 100% sure the needle/seat are clean then mess with the float tab if the issue continues.
How do you check for debris in the needle/seat area? I have a brand new carb ran it for 5hrs don't think I had this issue till I brought it to Gator-tail had them tune it due to backfireing problem. They said they adjusted the "high speed"? no more backfireing but now spiting gas out the top vent only at WOT.
Here is a link to an exploded view of the HSR42
http://www.mikuni.com/pdf/tm42xview121801.pdf

Remove the drain plug #77 on the diagram. Have something to drain the fuel into a spray can lid works well if you have enough clearence below the carb.
Remove the carb from the engine.
Remove the fuel bowl #74 by removing the 4 screws in each corner. This will expose the float assembly which has the needle attached to it.
Remove Float Pin Screw #72 Pay very close attention to how the needle is attached to the float and remove the float.
The Needle/Seat assembly is #69 and the needle fits inside the seat. The tip of the needle is soft and may have trash stuck to it, If there is clean it but be careful as you can cause damage to the tip of the needle. Once you know it is clean it's time to check out the seat where the tip of the needle rest when the float rises due to fuel filling the fuel bowl. The float moving up and down opens and closes the needle/seat assembly and that is what controls the flow of fuel into the fuel bowl. I've never had to remove the seat from the carb to check it or clean it. Use a flashlight to look in the seat area to see if there is trash in it. You can use carb cleaner to blast it or compressed air can work also.

Once you know it is clean reverse the order to reassemble.

Now this was from memory but I'm pretty sure no steps were left out.
