Small deep cycle battery? Charging system, 9.5hp OB?

 Small deep cycle battery? Charging system, 9.5hp OB? Started work on the electrical rigging on my small (1436, 9.5hp) boat project. Couple of questions:
Does anyone know, or can anyone tell me how to tell, if my Johnson 9.5hp outboard has a charging system? I know it doesn't have an alternator, but I've seen references to some type of "charging system". I only plan to use the battery for running lights, bilge, phone charger, and driving lights. I'm also looking for a smaller than full sized deep cycle battery, which is too heavy, and I don't think I need that much juice anyway.
