 Catwalk ??
I see alot of boats with them on here. What is their purpose ? I am gonna get a boat built soon and trying to figure out if I need them or not.

 Re: Catwalk ??
Makes the side more rigid and hold shape but add weight 2 your rig. also if they are wide enuff u can walk on them.

 Re: Catwalk ??
Looks, a place to sit or walk on, possibly some added strength, and for me it is a place to run all my wiring and fuel lines. I don't like my wiring lying under the floor where it stays wet. If I was to have another one built, only thing I would change would be to go with a wider catwalk!

 Re: Catwalk ??
They work well for adding lights in the boat without blinding you while running.

 Re: Catwalk ??
I will second the opinion...won't have another boat without them! They are not that much more weight in the big scheme of things unless you are really counting pounds. Nice place to sit, set your drink down on, walk on. Personal thoughts, they stiffen up your sides BIG TIME! I put my boat through some seriously rough water the first weekend I had it. Between the 2" x 4" x 0.1875" catwalks and the 1.25" square tube on the outside...those 24" sides didn't flex one iota!

 Re: Catwalk ??
How wide is your boat going to be?
Just my thoughts...stick with the 4" unless you're going really wide...like 60+" My catwalks were made using 4" x 2" x 3/16" angle. They are pretty dang stout. I have seen where some are created by crimping the sides or using 4" flat. I don't think they will be anywhere near as stout as the angle.

 Re: Catwalk ??
Forgot to put my justification for the above comments..
If you go to wide on your catwalks with a small width bottom, you are taking away from your "open space" in the boat. 6" catwalks takes away 4" of available space across the top vs. 4" catwalks....which already take away 8" of open space. That make sense?

 Re: Catwalk ??
You may want to read the 8" catwalk thread. If you make a wider catwalk, remember to adjust your box and or lid width.

 Re: Catwalk ??
I just don't see the value in catwalks. They add weight, add cost, make it harder to get in and out of the boat, and seems like they would make it harder to move around in the boat by taking away "open space".
I think it must be how you use your boat. I don't really get it... but then again, I don't get huntdecks either.

 Re: Catwalk ??
For me .... Catwalks are my way to walk around to the back deck without gettin down in the bottom of the hull. They also tremendously support the structure of the boat. And IG you think about it the floor is more narrow that the beam so your really not walking where the catwalks are anyway. Also makes a great place to hide wiring etc..I do agree about making it allitle difficult getting in though.

 Re: Catwalk ??
I go from front to back via catwalks a 100 times a night!! With out them I would have to step down and back up each time!! Love mine plus when we built the boat we crimped the side so I don't loose any space on the inside!!
