31 hp Vanguard back fire problems
I have a fairly new 31 hp mudbuddy sport surface drive that I have ran for quit some time with no problems until now. Every time I start the motor and take off it runs great. After I stop for a while then fire it back up it will cough and backfire for a bit then it seems to clear then run fine wide open. I've checked all the gas line connections to make sure the system is closed and there are no air leaks. I also run fresh gas with seafoam to stabilize so there is no problems there with water and so forth. Could it be that the ant backfire solenoid is bad and causing problems? Let me know your thoughts.

Tolerance on your engine is .004-.006. Here is a video that shows, in detail, one way to set it. Take your time and make sure you do it right.

Re: 31 hp Vanguard back fire problems
Cb if it's not just right will it make the engine difficult to start? When I crank mine cold I have to choke it but even after it warms up it seems like it has to make a revolution or two to bust off. Seems like it cranked better prior to me setting the lash. I know on the Kohler I had I couldn't even get off the key hardly before it started. Just wondered if I might need to go back and check it.
