Post Damn you 25 efi!
So I thought I was set on a 35 GTR on an 1846 GTB, but now with this 25 efi that has come out I am seriously considering going that route on an 1840 hull. I know what the stability of the narrower boat is and I am alright with it. My question is; is anyone running this set up or know anyone who is? I'm just curious on what speeds to expect I would like to be able to hunt three guys out of it but I am not expecting to break any water speed records either. I know this is the wrong forum for the following question but I'll ask anyways; besides doing a head job and exhaust are there any other mods for the efi? Thanks!

1638 round chine, he's running 27 solo & light, 23-24 with 2 guys & light, 18-20 with 2 guys, dog, & hunt load.

IMHO, the 25 efi is a badass lil motor, but if you're not hp restricted, go with 35.

I normally hunt with one other guy so I'm not overly worried about the smaller hp. I just really want the efi feature, that is the main reason for looking into this set up.

The 25 will run on an 18x40, Gator tail sells 18x40's with either the 25hp or 35hp option. So yes to your question

Being its fuel injected doing a head job and exhaust will be tricky with not being able to dial in the fuel injection like you can with a carb, of course more air in means more fuel. But it will be figured out, these motors run really well and have plenty of power without mods, i can only imagine what they can do with mods.....

I didn't know i asked a yes or no question, haha. But i know gt recommends the smaller hp for that hull. That being said, I would have no problem putting a 35 on it, I'm just so intrigued by the efi that I'm thinking about sacrificing the power for convenience.

I'm having a dumbass night, My brain is getting ahead of my fingers. Take'em, What are you thinking speed wise out of that longer square chine (1840) vs the smaller round chine mentioned above?

Go with the 35 HP if you are not HP restricted. You will not be happy with a 25 hp. There is a reason we all Mod our engines. The people who dont cant afford to because if they had the money they would. The EFI is not worth the reduced power.

I ordered my 25GTR last week. I will be running it on a .100 custom built 16.5'x46" InstaGator. In my opinion it should run better than the above listed Gator Trax. Not that those are bad #'s but my boat will be empty other than a front deck. So i am goin to be lighter and displace less water. Should be a great lil running rig. Bout a month out on motor so wont post review til 1st of the year. :D

Is that the Robin/Subaru EFI? Do you know if it is an open loop or closed loop EFI? I've been running the Kohler 29hp for a couple of years. That is the 27hp with the Delphi EFI and it is a closed loop system. Other than the fact it doesn't push as big a load as the big Briggs with 246 cc more displacement I am sold on it. It starts easier, runs smoother, has better throttle response idles better, gets much better fuel economy and is immune to carb icing. I like it so well I am working on a closed loop EFI for my 35hp Briggs. On my 18 X 50 Polarcraft the 29hp Kohler runs in the low to mid 20's with 2 people, plus fuel, food, camping and fishing gear for a week. The 35hp Briggs is 2-3 mph faster with the same load. If I thought the crank, rods and block would survive I'd put a turbo on. As "gee Whiz" as that would be, reliability is more important to me than speed. There are rumors that both Briggs and Kohler are working on EFI for the big blocks. I hope it happens before I'm too old to enjoy it. Since it's 40 below outside right now and my shop is warm I guess I have plenty of time to finish my EFI on the Briggs before the water gets soft again. Just so you know I'm not blowing smoke here is a picture of the throttle body on the manifold adapter I built.

Will the fuel injector(s) spray inside the throttle body?

Stu, that's pretty awesome, i wish the big block was offered in efi as well. I'm stuck debating the ease of use of the efi in a smaller hp or the power of the big block.

Stock Subaru 25efi Gator-Tail was running 26 - 27 empty on my little rig. That's what I'm running with highly modified GTR23.

Well i guess my dilema was taken care of for me today.... Lost my bow lease because the price sky-rocketed today, so it looks like my brother will be hunting with me often so it will be a three man load. Big block it is.

Camo, do you have a hunt deck on yours? And take'em, i think 4' 10" is legally a midget, so don't worry you're plenty tall enough!

I'm debating one for the sole reason that 18' can be a pain to turn around in some spots, let alone adding another 16" onto that. Any insight?

When you buy an 18 foot boat the huntdeck is part of that, its not added to the previous 18'.

Gator tails 1846 with huntdeck option is 18' with the hunt deck. They include the hunt deck length in the measurement.

Ok, i was misinformed by gator-tail and my local dealer had NO clue. I figured travel cost vs shipping cost and I'm thinking i may just drive down in spring and buy it in la... Good vacation i think. Plus i may get to deal with someone who has a clue!

Gator Trax adds onto the length, but not Gator Tail.
