Post MM exhaust broke
On the way out yesterday my MM broke. It was a loud SOB. It ran like crap, it was very hard to keep it running at idle, and had some power loss. I'm assuming it was from one of the cylinders not having any back pressure.

Anyone know what kind of warranty the MM have?

Best thing to do is weld it back with 308 or 309l filler metal. Mine broke at 50 hours due to the welds being poor with little "meat" to them. More than likely it will break again though...

This is it. It turns out one of the brackets were broken also. The extra vibration could have had something to do with it.

You can weld it with what ever you want it's gonna Brake on the edge of the weld in the heat affected zone. I fixed mine at least 10 times sent it back got it fixed then it did the same. Had it fixed and traded for a gutted stock.

What do y'all expect it to be indestructible. They are made out of paper thin crappy stainless, I don't see why people waste time sending them back. Yeah it's getting fixed for free or whatever but it would take less time to drive to a muffler shop and get them to fix it than ship it some where.

The more times you weld on it the weaker it gets

Pre-heat and post-heat treatment takes a lot of stress out.

I tigged the ear on the bracket, back on for a guy. Get them to weld both sides with 309 tig wire. As for that pipe that broke off never seen that.

Dont waste your time wif 309. Use Inco 82. 309 is junk wire, a carbon to stainless wire. U need to look into it being a prop change r something else that is causing an unbalanced issue.

Inco82 is TIG wire for Inconel. It is also the JB weld of metals. The only way to have a muffler stand up half way desent is to build it out of Inconel or 321 or 347 stainless. Those steels are used for high temp, corrosive enviroments with elevated tensile strength. Inco is way to expensive but 347 or 321 is doable. Last 50 EVT mufflers were done out of 321 but they still made them thin. Need some base metal thickness to make it last.

Post Re: MM exhaust broke
Just an FYI: I have a Prodrive 36HP with 42 hours on it. Had issues this past weekend while on a hunt. The baffles inside the exhaust came loose and actually ripped a hole thru the exhaust - broken weld suspected. Obviously this will get replaced under warranty. Believed to be solely due to vibration. Not the only vibration related issues that I have had. Air filter bracket broke, steering rod nut repeatedly loosened until lock tight applied, and sheared bolts on the screen on the flywheel. My brother has extensive knowledge in small engines and is a Certified Master mechanic. He has also spent several hours in the boat with me and was there when the problems are encountered. And, like him, I have spoken to others on these issues - bottom line is, get used to it if you own an "over the transom" mud motor. Exhaust issues seem to be very common. I love the boat package - just have to live with the issues.
