It isn't as smooth looking as a lot of builds I've seen but it is functional. Started with a 212cc predator engine, hill marine 9x8 SD prop, 1.63 to 1 reduction. I added a Honda gx200 bored out Carb, a billet aluminum flywheel, 18 pound valve springs, 1.3 rocker arms, 8 degree timing key and a 7/8" exhaust header. Should be putting out right at 10 HP. I adjusted the governor for more top end (which unfortunately raised my idle until I have a chance to work that problem out) so I'm turning quite alot more rpm than factory, right at 5200 out of the water. In open water I'm running 16 MPH in open water and 18 in water from about a foot and a half to 2 or 3 inches. Now if I can just get pics to upload.

Nothing wrong with that build. Like the use of the outboard mounting makes it simple.

Great job!! All you need now is to build a wooden boat so you can say you built the whole rig.

post some pics of the drive assembly. I'd like to know what shaft, bearing and seal parts you used as well. I have built a long tail but not a SD Yet

Was going to try to get some pictures of the drive system up today but I am working away from home and don't have any pics of it on my phone. I will try to get it tore down and upload some when I get back home, probably be next week tho.

How long is the tail shaft? Nice build!

30 inches from the back of the box, probably could be 27 but works fine.

im gunna bump this back up, Im wondering on your bearing assembly too. I plan on building a surface drive over the summer and was wondering about what oyu have done for the assembly

The shaft housing has a bearing both fore and aft with a two bolt flange bearing with locking collar on the box itself.

Fyi, using the two b section belts are at least 50 percent cheaper for the setup than the cogged belt and I haven't slipped them yet except when I occasionally get too much water in the box. Does need a separate seal behind the back bearing.
