Post Prodrive Dilemma
buddy of mine just bought a prodrive rig. i think the motor is an '08 and it has 57hrs on it. When out of the water, full rev reads 4100 on the tiny tach, in the water it only runs at 3500-3600. no mods on the motor except for a gutted exhaust. prop is worn, but not that bad. it is pushing a 1656 xpress semi v only 21-23. (i think that the hull is a lot of the problem?) any ideas or fixes guys? all suggestions are appreciated

but if the prop is worn slightly, the rpms should be much higher than this correct?

Standing behind the motor, in the bottom, right hand side of all the linkage, there is a screw with a spring on it. Screw it in till you reach the desired rpms (4300), without a load on the motor.

yes that is the governor screw. i am going to adjust that tomorrow. i wonder, could low octane gas be a factor? idk what he runs in it. i know ethanol gas will kill it soon if hes running that..

If it'll only turn up 4100 on the trailer, the govenor is set too low for sure. After you get that set to 4250-4300 rpm, play with the trim. See where that gets it.

After turning up the governor, take the air filter off and run it to see if its restricting your RPM. If the green foam filter is still on it, take it off and toss it. This removes the variable of a clogged filter.

You might have to adjust your idle after you mess with the governor screw. The idle screw, if your looking down at the top of the carb, is on the left side.

did a little bit of adjusting and she rolls on much better! bumped 25 a few times, motor turnin at 4100-4200 rpms. i think the rest is the hull shape and needing a new prop. thanks for the help guys!
