Post Cam info
Man I must be hiding under a rock, went to SETX webpage and they are closed to catch up. I have a call and tried to PM Calen due to he lives about 1hr 10 min away but nothing yet. When I first joined the forum, I had nopt heard of Calen, YET. After the gains that Will noticed from SETX, I was in the same boat and wanted similiar results. Thus i sent my heads to SETX. After reading several threads on Calens work, he does fantastic work also and is alot closer.

Now here's my delima, SETX is closed and the phone number has been removed. I have an email into them and waiting to hear back. Is there any specific information, without indulging secrets, that I will need to pass on to Calen or someone about getting a cam?

Their are 3 different cams available for your motor, BPS, Hoyt, and PVT. You do not need any secret information to give.

From hearing it from Al at PVT and those who have ran a PVT cam, there is really no difference in PVTs and BPSs cam. In fact, most people prefer the PVT. Al's cam is $215 with lifters. BPS is $300 with lifters. Not sure on Hoyts.

If you are wanting a mid range to top end cam go with PVT, this cam will come to lif around 2800 to 5400 RPMs. If you want a good load carrying cam go with Hoyts. If you want a inbetween cam go with the new BPS

Just keep in mind,,the prodrive is already turning more RPM than the GTR's....With that said, you might be better off with PVT...

These motors have a lot of prop slip so you benefit more from a cam that has a little more up top...

Give it a try...report back!

I know BPS switched grinds but there are threads on this site that state they don't notice any difference between Al's and BPS's new grind. I may be wrong but just going off other's opinions.

Just remember,,,if you have the Marine Engine, you are limited to 4700rpms...So that may play a big part in deciding..

nope have 07' AND I do run the stock carb. So the gov is at 4250-4300. So I'll have to remove that and install a rev box?

Yep. You may need a stronger spring, but that's it.

Thanks for the clarification Jamie B. I've said it before and I'll say it again, even through all the bs this site produces, you can learn a ton of info. PVT is my route tho. Ill enjoy that mid-top end punch.

I like PVT products, they are some of the best around, and Al Hodge is a very knowledgeable man. I myself like building more of a midrange to top end motors.

I will also add, if someone is building an engine to turn 4700 RPMs max, whats the point of putting a 5400 RPM cam when you can take the advantage from the bottom end with the 4700 RPM cam. This is something for the guys planning on doing mods for load carrying to think about.

Unless you have a cam specifically built for your motor the off the shelf cams will start to pull at varying RPMS. You will not get one cam to perform the same in one motor as it will in another. Will they be close, yea but they will vary.

I ask, and everyone needs to keep in mind these engines flash up when you get on it...They have a high amount of slip. So most dont need to have a cam that pulls "off idle" per say...

Now if you always in thick mud, or always loaded with 4 people or more then you may want to consider this.

If that dont do it for you. You can always shave ya heads .080!

Are all of these cams regrinds or are any of them cut from new blanks? Another thing I wonder is why no numbers are available on any of the aftermarket cams, or the stock cam for that matter. I guess you gotta break out the degree wheel and dial indicator and do it yourself.

Craig, someone told me that nobody selling cams has them cut from a new blank, that they're all stock regrinds. Is this true? Just curious.

Actually got in touch with Cody. Even though there the website is closed, he still called back and is hooking me up with one to match my heads he did. Should be about about a week and a half to two weeks. I'm in no rush, and I'm pumped that he decided to get me one.
