 need more power and speed i have a 20 hp long tail kohler beavertail mud motor. looking to get more mph. pushing a 1448 semi v lowe jon boat. with gear and dog i m getting only 11-12 mph.
what are my options besides a bigger motor?

Re: need more power and speed What RPM's are you getting.In and out of the water. Ya could bend the governer tab and try for a little more.

Re: need more power and speed sell your rig, get longer flat bottom boat, with surface drive, 35hp if you can afford it so you can do the available mods. thank me later.

Re: need more power and speed a different boat is not in the budget right now.
i hunt in mn. i drag this set to the slough we hunt. so i really cant go much bigger.
i have been asking about engine mods. can anyone give me some advice about motor?

Re: need more power and speed not really a wide variety of mods for the kohlers, maybe have the heads worked gut stock exhaust and try to find a carburator for it.

Re: need more power and speed I'd wait till you can afford a bigger boat or motor. Gotta look at it this way, your going to slow right now. Do you wanna drop 1000-1500$ to mod that motor to continue to go slow? Probably not!
Sell that motor and use the money you were gunna use to mod the motor for a 35 surface drive. It will be faster and you won't waste your money if you decide to mod it
