 Grass screen
Anyone ever had the grass screen catch on the plastic cowling and break the three studs that hold it on to the fly wheel? Then rip the fan to shreds? Had to order the new parts today. Heard that this is a common occurrence with the 35.

 Re: Grass screen
Yep. You must have been the other boat at Seminole.
Broke 2 of the 3 studs on the fun run.
My solution. No more spinning guard.

 Re: Grass screen
Smart thinking Mr. Triple b. That will serve the same purpose without that stuff spinning. Probably gonna do mine like that before it happens.

 Re: Grass screen
You know damn well you're gonna have to shoot some paint on those zip ties before you're happy with that setup! I'll let you borrow some dead grass green paint. Only takes a week to dry.

 Re: Grass screen
I ordered a new fan and had Boat DR cut down some new studs. I'm gonna do my screen like you did bbb. Andy said you need to keep the metal ring and three studs in place to help support the fan. I'm going to try and get the broke off studs out with a left hand drill bit.

 Re: Grass screen
I was able to drill a small hole into the broken stud and used a tap on the drill in reverse and backed the sheared bolt out. I got lucky they weren't in there too tight. Then put the ring back on and found 3 bolt screws with the same thread. Looked for the black zip ties for 10 minutes and settled on those as I was headed to the lake again. See my boat doesn't sit out in the driveway 4 days waiting for the paint to dry. While I was on the lake I found the black zip ties in my dry box. Thinking about powder coating the guard.

 Re: Grass screen
The torx bolts that hold the screen on are the same size as the tower bolts. I used them to hold the metal ring on the fan, & put the grass screen on the inside of the cage with small black zip ties. A quick rattle can job, & it looks just like stock.

 Re: Grass screen
I turned the motor off as soon as I heard it go but it was too late. It didn't break any of the fins but chewed them up pretty bad.

 Re: Grass screen
U need to leave the metal band and 3 bolts that hold the cooling fins down n the middle. The fins will flex out when running and rub the shroud if u don't. U need to cut down the center bolts so they are only buttons r they will eventually shear off too. Just get rid of the grass guard completely.

 Re: Grass screen
I saw a post on here a long time ago where a vertical did the same thing except it messed up the fan, a coil and busted the main shroud. I went home that night and took all that crap out including the grass catcher. Everybody I know personally had done it.

 Re: Grass screen
Cut those long studs off like a typical bolt head and put em back in there.

Why do you need the grass catcher? I just took mine off completely.
