I guess it was just wishful thinking...They've kinda sorta had it under control for the last couple years, but it's got a stronghold now. This is just depressing, I don't know any other way to put it. Way worse than I ever imagined it would be.

I find it very hard to believe that nothing can be done to get rid of this. I'm sure the state of Texas has the resources. I heard the spill at the run and all, but I would think if enough people complained they would have to do something.

The spray is a double edged sword because it silts in the lake. The spray they have works well but its expensive and time consuming. They just don't have the resources for it.

What works the best is scooping it up and taking it to shore, but there is hardly any accessible shoreline in the swamp...too many cypress trees.

The weevils are what naturally controls it in south america or wherever this shit came from, but they can't breed them fast enough and they don't survive as long in our climates. They're trying to expand the breeding facilities and greenhouses for the weevils, but it takes time and money. Neither of which they have.

There is lots of money being thrown at it, texas a&m has been doing studies and testing, and there is plenty of other groups doing what they can to help. People are making noise about it...
They said the water hyacinth was going to kill the lake when I was growing up, but they got it under control...I hope they get it figured out, but it ain't looking good right now. It just grows so fucking fast!

Damn, you should hear the ruckus up here about invasives like milfoil and zebra mussels. I'm glad folks know it's a big deal to jump on early, but we don't have anything near as bad as that.

That's why the Caddo raised funds were donated to the Weevil program.
