How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
A good friend helped me out and made it happen for me for this season. AND BOY did it work out well. I dont think there are to many War Eagles with Float pods on them out there but man did it HELP out the trans wanting to dig in from the prodrive. Speed still 21mph with me, my buddy matt and the dog. turning no change handles great. EVEN WITH MY 5XL frame I could stand at the trans and the pods were still up out of the water and if you killed the motor from full speed no more wash over the trans at all. Can still get into reverse also. I only have manual and have never used it but you can still get there. I dont hunt mud mostly just shallow open water areas with lots of GRASS. I didnt plan on doing this to next year but a good friend helped me out and he is a aweful good welder Very happy with the results!

Shoulda lightened the load in back of boat and put it up front. Prolly wouldnt need pods to keep it from squatting. ...whats the transom angle on that boat?

Oh man, this is going to cause some problems. Every one on here is going to tell you that pods will never work, no matter how much you think they helped you, they will tell you your wrong. Thats good they helped you. I know several people that have used them and it helped alot, but some boats it don't.

An 1860 shouldnt squat unless transom height and angle are wrong or all the weight in boat is in the back...

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
Ahhhhhh good morning campers. Sorry I slept all night and missed The critique. Floor you are all so interisted in. That is called aquatile. Its non slip when wet And water drains under. More durable than hydro for the inside of The blind than hydro is. The pattern is for CHESS not checkers lol. I get a lot of shit about it but its functional and not all one color. War eagles with heavy motors are known to squat I thought That was a well known PC of info? This solved that for my rig. I hunt open water not back in the stuff. Never had reverse on my GD for 20 years and dont see me using it on this one. But where I hunt its just grass under water so they suit my needs and I wont be backing up in the bogs. not all of us hunt the same conditions. This is not a MUD boat for sure. I had pods on an old xpress 1650 long ago with my 25 godevil Long tail and it really helped that rig out also. Give my buddy a break on his shades he's not a hunter never even Been in a boat much. Hell he lost a flipflop at the ramp pushing off Had to go back for it was prolly designer Anyways this custom set of pods sure helps my boat. The floor form follows function and its functional about $1.59 sqft And no it doesn't require WAX. LOL heres another floor photo closer up.

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
cause its also shallow with logs and stumps underwater. last season I had my 2 year old to me 1970's 18' lund big resorter with a 40hp on it. I spent also of time and money restoring that big boat and i cracked something underwater at full speed destroyed the engine sent me flying. and I was on a normal path out to the open water.
thats when I went back to a motor that was more durable.
The grass up here on the pool is THICK and it sucks every decoy line is covered when you pull them up and its had on outboards and I did a season and 2 days with an outboard and decided that was it back to a mud type engine.

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
appropriate hull.... cause sometimes you use what you have, money doesnt grow on trees and I got a hella good deal on the WE boat, blind and trailer. The world is not perfect and somethings will actually work even its not "meant" for each other. You improvise and this combo in my need, use works great for your use it prolly would not work well. Its just duck hunting not raceing lol
I better not post a photo of the blind on here with my custom paint Ill prolly get hell for not being just right. Guys sorry but its just not that big of a deal to me. Im not a pro hunter I only get out 20 times a season and this works great for me. BTW I call the blind Suburban rail yard cammo.

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
Dave, looks good to me and glad it works for you. I know the area you hunt and what you did makes sense to me, hard bottom, stumps, grass etc. I couldn't get to where he is hunting without destroying my outboard. I also like the idea of making what you got work. For the rest of you, Dave can't move the load forward, he is a pretty big fella. Pods prob make sense in his situation.
I also like your floor, it reminds me of digital camo.
Fwiw, I had a 1856 w/ 36 pd and it really wouldn't work too great for Dave in the area he hunts. Didn't really work that great for me trying to get a hunting load planed over hard bottom with a hunting load. The back of the boat always squatted a bit too much and I'm not as big of a dude as Dave. Tellu what tho, a fuel injected 3G pro drive on an 1860 or 1866 mud hull looks like it would be the cats ass in our area.

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
no worries man I can take it lol
I know the WE hull is not the chosen type for surface drive but its what I got. Its a nice deep boat for the water I hunt and not a V-BOW like my old lund was more stable. I know several other WE owners that have also considered the pod route but not much info out there as no one will admit they did it lmfao.
Here is a Video and some pics I shot from 2008 I think, I am also a DIVER DUCK hunter and the buffies were in thick so we headed out a ways almost to the channel of the pool and set up by an washed in log. My dog was 2 then we had good winds and you can see my old lowe roughneck with the aquatile floor I have used it before and old artificial XMAS tree limbs on the blind also.
Have a great LABOR DAY if any of you WE owners want details on pods I have more pics PM me.

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
Typical hunt up here:
Wind blowing 20-30 mph. Temp in the teens, spray freezes on your jacket, might be breaking some ice. Leave the landing running through whitecaps. Hit the channel of the Mississippi, dodge the barges, watch the wakes in the whitecaps in the dark, things get a little funky. Get out of the channel and run a route that isn't all stumps but you are going to smoke one every once in awhile no matter what. Stay on plane because its shallow with hard bottom.
Put out half a boatload of supermag decoys. Couple of those cute bags of decoys won't cut it. Call your ass off, kill ducks. Load all that stuff back up, and thats sure easier if you got a couple three buddies with you, try and get the boat up on plane , again, shallow water hard bottom, so you can get the hell out of there because you are wet, freezing your ass off and your toes and fingers are numb. Run the whitecaps in the channel again, do your best not to drown in 30' of water. get back to landing and load your boat that now weighs 300 pounds more than it did in the morning. Repeat the next morning.

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
21 pre pod 21 post pod
Did a u turn at 21 mph in 2 feet Of water and it was good. I think The only effects the pods have is People ask WTF and quicker to plane And keeps the ass end up higher so when U come to a sudden slow down water stays In the river now.

Put fuel up front. You'll probably pick up a mph or two. The flatter u get the boat to run the faster it will be.

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
thought about moving the tank but with the hard side blind no real good places to put it. will see how it goes this season and go from there. For now 21 mph is good to get me to where I need to go on the river. The big weight in the back is ME lol im working on that part but it wont happen that fast lol.
The pods helped my issue that I had and can fine tune it better latter on.

Put a couple of 5 gal buckets of water in the front and go run it with a slightly empty tank. It'll give u an idea of if it will help or not.

Re: How I improved my WarEagle 1860 for my pro-drive - PODS!
just a lil UPDATE... Pods did great then we put the blind on the rig added all the gear and lost SPEED something turible.
So my good friend had an Idea for that HEAVY LOAD TIME OF YEAR.
Speed was 13 in the shallow and 7 in the deep up or down river
NOW with the mega pod bolt on for that time of the year
Speed 20 shallow and 14 deep water. Today had a 20 mph wind north and going back to ramp so going against current she pulled 8 mph going to the hunt spot down stream was 14 mph. GREAT improvement still turns on a dime. that blind is alot of wind drag.
Lil EXTREME but makes my non "MUD" hull work great with my ProDrive for sure.
And managed to scratch out 5 nice divers today on the Mississippi was a good day and I got my speed back and they can come off for fishing season.
