I read his post very clear!I am talking about the person that is easing up to logs and getting hung up because they are going too slow.Sounds like Mr.Gigafowl knows about getting hung up on logs first hand.

Post Re: slow rollin with a square chine
about slow rollin over logs.... having not crossed any logs yet, i dont think my first one will be at speed. i bet ill be doin alot of slow rollin till i get the hang of it, besides im not sure how my hunting buddies will take it either. im sure with time ill figure out the best way. im the youngest of our bunch (42) so i get the driving duities in a boat that doesnt belong to me(1642 mod v w/ 25hp outboard), always trying to not hit anything. any time we have hit something its been sumerged stumps or knees. seemed we were going to take on water or fall out of the boat. no one freaks out but things get alittle tense. spent 20 min. spinning around in a circle trying to get loose last time. im hoping a 17/1854 will be more stable in those situations, anything bigger and i think i will have trouble getting around in the timber. put a step chine on the bottom and navigating through the trees should be a breeze.

thats where im at for now. looking forward to getting in some test rides with some folks in their mud boats after duck season.

 x4 on tilting the camera down!

Tapered - last few inches angles up about 2 inches
GT Extreme - last few inches has a "stair step" up about 2 inches and
flat again to square connection to sides with splash flair
Phowler Extreme - A V-Type "fin" at outer rim of a square chine

I guess since this thread has been bumped back to the top of the pile, I will chime in with thoughts regarding the original question that was posted. I "slow-rolled" a lot of flooded timber the other day in my 1748 PD, and it did fine. I had no problems weaving in and out of the trees; bumping and bouncing to get where we wanted to go. (Just don't try to drive a 48" boat through a 46" hole in the trees.) I will say, that after having run a long tail for many years, the PD was much easier to manuever with regards to tight turning especially at slower speeds. Just my .02 for what it's worth.

yep, i run a round chine boat with a 16 gdlt and its a PAIN IN THE ARSE to run through tight trees especially at slow speeds... you better be lookin ahead and plan ur moves ahead of time. Hell, the first time i took it out in the flooded woods i hit a tree and a 12ft long dead log about a foot wide busted across my dam head... had me laid out in the bottom of the boat for a couple o minutes. Scared the shat outta my lil brother

No question the round chines perform like shit at slow speeds, but I can tell you they saved my ass two days ago. I dropped into a new lake to do some scoting, and the wind was blowing around 20 as a cold front came through and the lake was rolling preety hard. So I stayed in the shallows. I was runnin WOT, and out of nowhere a steel dock, with wood floors is dead in front of me. I laid off the throttle and turned as hard as I could to mis that damn thing. If I had square chimes I would have slid right into it, I would have been tossed, and the boat would have been full of water fo sure!

NOW- that being said, when I buy my next boat I am not sure if I will get rounded chines again, I like the concept of GTR's chines on the Extreme...
