Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
Trying to decide if I should put a hunt deck on my custom 16X48 if I know that I will never hunt out my boat. This boat will be used to transport people from launch to my blind. What is another reason to get a hunt deck other than to get the handle out of the back hunter's way/face. Is a hunt deck heavy, is it filled with flotation. Just looking for more info and yes I used the Search Bar so do not yell at me for posting. I know I've posted a lot, but this should be the last post. I have got my custom boat all figured out just need this last thing. Should I or Should I not get a huntdeck. Thanks

Re: Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
Thank you diddyduck, dfou, lunacris, will, and duck hearse Dfou- I know you did and appreciate it but I wanted some more opinions along with yours.
As for huck fin and kroegers y'all can suck a big 8-----D. I've never built a custom boat so I would like to get the answers/ opinions to my questions before I spend $6,000 on a boat at the age of 20. So f**k y'all don't open my thread if all you are going to tell me is use the search engine which I did. Instead being 8------Ds about me posting why don't y'all just f**king state y'all's opinion or just don't reply at all and save all the bull shit that way it's a win win. You tell me your opinion or don't tell me your opinion about my concern or don't say anything at all about my post that way I won't post about it again, and I win because I get other people's opinions. Why don't y'all act like Americans are supposed to act instead of being pricks about every little thing and calling me out for wanting opinions on me wanting to know what others think I should do to my custom hull along with my ideas. If you don't like what I post or how much I post than you shouldn't have opened my thread up and put in y'all's .02$ (Which was absolutely USELESS)cuz y'all's post didn't help at all 8-------Dheads, but thanks to everyone else much appreciated. "F" the rest

Re: Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
HF- How in anyway were you trying to help? You didnt answer or put your opinion on the thread. The others helped besides one. They gave me information that I did not have before this thread. That I tried searching for myself, but could not find. My main question was if I get a hunt deck installled is it filled with foam or is it just dead weight and slow me down. That was what I was thinking and couldnt find an answer.

Mod V and keep the weight/batteries (5 24v minimum) as far forward as possible.

Re: Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
That being said. Get a hunt deck. Leave it open. It's not am addition to the back of the hull unless you get a gatortrax and want your huntdeck to hook (hint: you don't want that). It's simply cut out of the sides of the boat at the the stern. Mine is open and I can get under. My switch panel hangs under it, my battery is under it, and my plugs. I wouldn't get get an enclosed/foam filled one. That being said here's my advise to a 20 year old thinking about this. Go buy a cheap 1648 alwelded Jon boat (G3, alumaweld, weld built, etc). It will run better than what you have now. Drive the absolute shit out of it for the next year or two while you figure out what you really want/don't want in a boat. Save money in the meantime and buy your custom boat/35mm at the same time after you've done that. IMO, you won't know what you truly need/want in a boat until you've owned a couple and used the shit out of them ImageUploadedByTapatalk1382570849.055522.jpg

Re: Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
D_White
Thanks for that info. I have never seen a hunt deck like that. The people in he camp I hunt with in the camp that have hunt decks are all gatortrax boats. I like yours wayyyy better. I have had boats in the past and mud motors, but this will be the first year with a surface drive, so I don't know what to expect. The reason I am looking to getting a custom boat is because the boat I am in now has no storage in it AT ALL, so I am looking forward to Customizing my own rig. This has been the best info that I've gotten so far from anyone. Thanks

Re: Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
dont get the huntdeck, from what i read on here people only get it because its whats "cool" and it has zero purpose other than looks.
really tho i wouldnt have one without it anymore, until youve owned one and hunted from one for a season you wont know how great they are.

Re: Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
Why not buy a used boat first. If you get a pretty good deal, you can try it out for a few months, sell it for not too much less if any than you paid for it.
Get you something that will be 18 to 20 foot long with hunt deck. Play around with it and in 6 months or so you will know what you want in a boat.

Re: Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
I am, leaning towards this pretty much basic hull, but it is all I am looking for in my boat. Lots of room and enough storage for guns, fishing tackle, 2 ice chests, and whatever else bs my guests may bring. ouple questions Spud poles or spud receivers or both?
What do you all think this rig would cost? a rough estimate in your mind.
16X48 w/o hunt deck. with hunt deck 17.5X48. trolling motor mount gun box in the bow hatch in the middle of bow underneath open bow space (6) seat bases (2 of which that will be on top of the actual hunt deck for portable rod holders from gator trax) I put the rod holders there to where they arent in the while casting the fish and they are in ght middle of boat standing straight up waiting to get hooked during a cast and plus no one would be able to fish in the middle of the boat. (6)Anchors in the floor to tie ice chests down with spud poles (open)hunt deck hydro turf flooring grab bar (4) cup holder on side of boat with storage ben connected push pole (6) Handles spread throughout rig
Is there anything that I put on here that is a waste or is there something that you all would suggest me having. This boat will not be thick at all because I hunt in marsh and do not deal with logs, trees, sand, or rocks, etc. so realtively a thin hull with a A LOT of open space.......... hopefully

Re: Hunt Deck Pros and Cons
I'll bite. Why do the coolers need to be tied down? With hydroturf there isn't much sliding around. False floor? No false floor? Gutters? Fully welded? Draw out exactly what you want. Pick a custom builder close to you. Call him and email him a pic of what you want and he will give you a price. Best be prepared by that time because if you have a bunch of BS questions for him he'll write you off/won't want to mess with it. Send a deposit in and when your turn comes you get full attention.
