Post 1450 boat, what size motor
I have a heavy 1450 boat, my 18hp dixie wouldn't plane it out. Would a 27 hp prodrive do it justice? Here's some pics of the boat.

Cheapest thing to try first is chopping those pods off! They gotta go!

Been searching and most good speeds are done without pods like dilla said

U may have to relocate ur gas tank to the front. Just gotta see how it acts after u cut the pods off :)

It's a short shaft, I don't think I want to cut the pods off. I know it's supposed to be better without them, but i was only getting 10mph before I put them on.

How far is the bottom of the belt housing from the bottom of the boat

I'm really not sure, I took the motor off to put a 40hp tiller steer on it. But, I can't stand it and want another MM.

It doesn't seem to be plowing water from the belt housing.

Wtyner, tell us more. Boat/motor - used? You bought separately? How long ago? Give us details so we can help. Take a better picture of that prop - what size does it say and what does it measure out to?

Post Re: 1450 boat, what size motor
I bought the motor new in January of 2012, I had it on a light weight 1444 and it would run mid 20's with 2 people, gear, and 97lb lab. It's a short transom, or short shaft. I was going to buy a new prop but I couldn't get the old one off and was told not to put heat on it. I can measure the prop but I don't think it has the pitch on it.

Take pics of prop w/o the tape. It looks a little rough. I'd definitely rule that out before new motor time.

I'm sure I have before, I'm taking more pics, It says the 18hp comes with an 11x10 prop on the web-site, is the first number the diameter and the second the pitch?

I'll try a new prop, any suggestions on getting it off? And I'm not looking at buying another MM, I would be trading an outboard for the 27hp PD

Yea, but i feel like it had marks like that when I originally bought it, knowing dixie they put a used prop on it. It doesn't take a socket, it only has a jamb nut, it's like there's not any thread for the jamb nut to move forward. I wedged a piece of wood between the prop and put a wrench on the jamb nut and couldn't get it to budge. I used the search bar to see how everyone else was getting theirs off, and feel like I tried everything but heat, and cutting the prop.

It's welded, 5" gunnels, floor and walls, .125 bottom. Thanks for everyone's help so far, I really do appreciate it.

LOL, hahaha. The new owner isn't customer friendly, after multiple emails and phone calls I got in touch with him and he barely told me what bearings to order for my tail section (not my problem attitude). He gave me a part number and told me it took 4, so I ordered them, took my shaft out and they didn't fit (and it only took 2). When I called back, and told him the number was wrong it was somehow my fault (gave them the part # he gave me). I ordered the best bearings I could get ($15) instead of the $3 ones he told me to order from his supplier. Long story short, I'd throw this frame in the scrap pile before I tried to sell it to someone else.

I talked to Mike from dixie and he said to stay with the 11x10 from Hill marine. He was actually a lot friendlier and sent me in the right direction, he must have been swamped during our last conversation or having a bad day.

I'm not sure yet. This is a different boat than i was running, and my prop is worn out from my old rig. I ordered a mini-tach yesterday and it should be here next week. But it's not going to help me without a good prop to test it with.
