Last night I was at a high school football game. In our area, most all people are very respectful in standing up, putting hand over heart or taking hat off to listen to the National Anthem. Even people in the concessions booths will stop serving and stand to honor our country.

But during the rendition given by the hight school band, they blow off the canon at "rockets red glare". I have also seen over the past few years that when the part of 'land of the free and the home of the brave" -- people are saying stuff like "land of the Tigers" or "Home of the Bulldogs"

Do you all think this is disrespectful? Or is it ok to add a twist to the playing of the Star Spangled Banner. I will give my opinion later.

I like, or at least don't mind, the canon. Not so much for changing the words.

Ok, here is the next part. And this is what a handful of people were discussing.

The canon disrupted the flow of the song because it was so loud and for like 5 seconds, you are not really hearing the national Anthem because everyone seems to concentrate on what just happened. Does this make a difference?

Here is my verdict: I think both are disrespectful because the cannon disrupts what is going on. There are many teens and younger there. I believe it is up to us to teach them by example what is expected during the moment of silence and the national anthem, and then they can go wild.

Maybe I am wrong but wanted to get a feel for what others thought. Thanks guys.

I wouldn't worry so much about the anthem.....this country ain't nothing what it once was.
