Anyone have a boat built by them? How do they perform?

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
I know there are a few people on this site who are running their boats, when I go custom they will definitely be on my short list. They seem to get good speeds out of them but hopefully the owners will chime in shortly to give you some real reviews. Try the search engine on here and google to see what comes up. Good luck

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
I called 7-8 times when I was ready to build and left voice mails. They never called me back once. Too bad cuz I really liked the shape of their boats and I think they do perform well.

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
Dude has a shit load of work and is a workahaulic. Everytime I stop there he is building and talks to me while working. Never stops to chat.
Been having my hull for 4 years next week and love it. I started with a tiller PD set up and used to get about 27 stock. Set up center console and lost a couple MPH. I haul alot of weight for long distances so I modded to a stage 2. Light I get up to 32. With a nice load I can still get about 28.
I have never had an issue with welds cracking of any other defects.
Currently am running a 70 HP Yamaha on it now. Will drop my PD back on it in 2 weeks to frog with it then back to Outboard.
You will not be disapointed if you go with his boats.
Look him up on Facebook. Has a shit load of boat pictures posted there.
I like the look of my boat. He pulls the front in some but not to much. Not those square box looking boats.

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
My brother has one of his older 1848's with a lot of storage...it rides a little heavy. But, I hunted out of one of his newer 1848's couple weekends ago with a stock 36 HP PD, Gen II LU. That thing flat out got it! I think it was all 1/8" one piece, short sides, guttered floor..about the only extra weight was a removable driver's seat and a built-in 15 gallon aluminum tank. Short front deck with storage. By myself, that thing was flying. Wish I would have GPS'd it. I did GPS it heading back to the camp with 3 people, 5 dozen weighted keel deeks, guns and gear. We were doing 25-26 in shallow and 23-24 in deep. I tried to go bury it in some lillies...it ate them up and backed right out of it.
I have always said, when I am ready to get a walk through windshield rig, I am going to call him up. He builds some really sick looking big rigs for outboards! Walk through windshields and center consoles...REALLY nice. Like NAJ said, check out the pictures on his FB page....you don't have to be registered on FB to see them.

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
I went talk to him and look at his boats yesterday. I've heard nothing but good things about him and his work. He sure builds some beautiful boats thats for sure. Do yall think adding the catwalks on the boat will add a lot of weight and affect the speed? I really love the look of the catwalks on his boats.

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
Casey is building a hull for me right now. He just got started on it last week and it's looking great already. If you are trying to call him and he is busy, he will not answer. Just text him. If you keep texting him, and tell him you want him to build a boat, and you have money in hand.... he will call you. Once the build starts, you will receive pics from him and he will be calling you if he has questions. So far he's hitting the nail on the head with my build. Really easy guy to work with and pays attention to detail with his builds.

Between my dad and I, we've had 5 boats built by casey. IMO, the best boat money can buy.

Zeek, your rig looks pretty much like a carbon copy of the one I mentioned above in Post #8...except it had a Gen II on it.

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
Do yall ever have any problems with the aluminum tanks creating water? I know the fuel/water seperator will take care of most of it, but some people were telling me not to get one but i really like them. Also someone was telling me not to get an enclosed deck bc they can never find stuff. I want an enclosed deck, yall ever get annoyed with an enclosed deck?

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
I wish my gt deck had dry storage, it would be nice. The aluminum tanks will sweat some. I like the aluminum tanks if they are exposed. If it's tucked under the deck, id go with a plastic tank.

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
I like the sportsman fabrication boats, tried to get a quote awhile back. After numerous calls and emails and weeks of waiting I received one text message from casey saying that it'll be another week before he could give me a quote. I gave up. Its been about 6 months now. I was disappointed but I was warned that he was hard to get ahold of. The neighbor at the camp has a bass boat he built, its impressive and was the reason i was set on going with Casey. I decided to just build my boat myself. Good luck, hope it works out

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
He built mine 10/13 a 1848 with a 12 gal alum tank up front. 7ft gun/rod box and no floor tubing to trip on. Sport V 36 empty 28 deep water. Fully loaded 1100 lbs 22 deep water. My 4th hunt boat and finally my last. Turns on a dime, even if I try to slide it. I run the Intercoastal near Morgan City and I feel very safe in it even with the 3ft rollers from the ships. Casey was great to work with once he started it. Never in a hurry for the custom touches. He even got me in touch with a painter who put on Wetlander on the bottom that made it all season without any loss of coverage.

 Re: Sportsman Fabrication in M.C.
Got an alluminum tank and never had issues. No fuel water seperator. I figure I have run about 1150 gallons of gas through it and have not had one drop of water show up. Gas is never in it long enough to worry.
And get you a encloded dry storage up front. You will not regret it. I would reccomend getting the widest hatch you can. I wish mine was bigger.
