 boat winch
who runs a winch on their boat? what size boat/ winch do you use? do you have a mount on the front and back or just the front?
i have a 1500 warn that came off of my wheeler im thinking about using on a 1754 hunt deck 1/8" flat bottom hull with extra braces and a layer of 1/8 poly, loaded with 3 guys and gear, im wondering if, single line, this is going to be enough winch?
im use to winching everything from atvs to 30,000 lb bucket trucks around in the mud but not sure what to expect with a boat. i figure the poly will help some but the mud suction on a flat bottom boat will be hell.

 Re: boat winch
I have a winch on my rig. Check the link in my signature. I can remove the winch in 30 seconds if not in use or leave it on there... I have a 1500lb winch but I bought a Gorilla Winch on EBAY ~ $60 for everything has worked fine since I've owned it.

 Re: boat winch
I have a 2500 warn on the front of my rig that is not moveable. I was able to winch my rig completely off the bottom of the Trinity river and all the way onto the bank full of water.
I don't have poly on the bottom, and I have been able to push the bow in any direction I need in order to winch in the direction I need to go so far.

 Re: boat winch
4,000 Warn on the front here. . Hardest problem was getting anchor to bite in the mud. Where the grass is was hard solid bottom and water is waist deep mud. Wanted to see how the winch would work. We were unable to budge the boat side ways. Winch pulled it out with two people in it no problem.

 Re: boat winch
I have a Warn 2500 on an 1854 PD. Works great. As for getting a bite in mud you can always buy a Pull-Pal or weld something up that's similar.

 Re: boat winch
I have a 3000# on my 18x44 GT, couldnt survive without it. That barge is heavy and attempting to get it over the levee would be fatal to my poor heart. Just dont have enough ass to get it over any other way

 Re: boat winch
I have a 2000 lb that's removeable on my 15/48 G3. I wish I had at least a 3000 lb b/c the 2k just don't have enough arse. You can get a 3000 lb with a wireless remote from Harbor Freight for $100. It's a cheapo, but it'll get the job done.

 Re: boat winch
I bought a Gorilla Winch and its held up nicely... that is until I ran it into a tree and the housing cracked... $75 dollars down the drain it saved me twice and worked flawlessly... Bought a bigger and better one for $90... Check EBAY I think I'm at a 2000lb or 2500lb I forget which
