Replacing GT seal
I've just started to notice a very small amout of grease on my belt. I ordered the new seal from Gatortail. How difficult are these to replace??

Re: Replacing GT seal
Nothing to it. You need snap ring pliers to make the job easy.
Also a heavy rubber mallet and good penetrating oil if you ran in saltwater. This is for the pulley and taper lock if it is corroded bad like mine was.

Re: Replacing GT seal
Remove the 2 allen head screws from the taper lock and place one back in the middle hole. The pulley should slide down towards the prop off of the taper lock with the tension of the screw pushing them apart. If that does not work, then soak in good penetrating fluid and hit the pulley with the rubber mallet and see if it frees itself while tightening up on the allen bolt you screwed back in the middle hole. Gradually hit harder since the pulley can be bent.

Re: Replacing GT seal
There are 2 snap rings in front and behind the bearing which hold it in place. The seal goes on top of that.

Are you hitting the pulley toward the prop?

Re: Replacing GT seal
I'm at a standstill trying to get this pulley and taper lock off the shaft. I've tried everything posted above but I can't get it figured out. If anyone has any suggestions or help, that'd be awesome.

Re: Replacing GT seal
I soaked mine in pb blaster overnight and used a rubber mallet. Beat it down

Re: Replacing GT seal
Whack that fucker. We just tok one off an 04 that ran its whole life in salt. Took a socket extension and steel hammer and hit the gear part towards the belt and tapped a screw driver in where it compresses and tapped it off. If that doesn't work just get a gear grab and put the nut on the threaded part and impact it.

Re: Replacing GT seal
just pushes out. rides on the lip of the seals it meant to be a wear part so you dont damage shaft. or are you talking about the housing itself? if so pipe wrench works
