 Gtr or sport v
I haven't owned a surface drive yet but hopefully this summer I'll have prodigy start my boat. I'm planning on getting either a 17x50 or 18x50. I want my boat to be as fast as possible to beat people in public spots but I need a quick reverse. I'm thinking either a gtr 35 or a new sport v 44. What do y'all recommend? I want to use my boat for fishing, duck hunting, deer hunting, and frogging so a slow reverse like prodrive is out. Slow as In the time it takes to get from forward to reverse. I heard a lot of bad things about the sport v but mudbuddy says they fixed them for 2014. I like gator tail but the design of the sport v is so much better. Which do y'all think would run faster?

 Re: Gtr or sport v
mine as well get the tried and true gtr35. no worries on cracked casings and all that mess of dealing with MB. compare prices of the sport v44 and gtr35 with stage 1 or 2 mods. but all b.s. aside. get the GTR you WILL NOT be disappointed. add mods immediately or wait a little while then send your motor off

If you want to be the fastest you better dig deep in the pocket book!

 Re: Gtr or sport v
PD hydro reverse takes 2.8 seconds to engage... just an fyi
As far as Sport V-they were 1 out of 3 this weekend at the ride. the other two were on the trailer by noon with cracked transom brackets.
The one fellow I talked to said he had 11 hrs on his and had been in the shop 4 times already and now the transom bracket was cracked. Asked what he hit and he said he thought is was a beer can... sure he was kidding.
So you take that for what you want.....
As others said you want to "be the fastest" you better get out your wallet. Nothing cheap about being fast, but more important to you for hunting is being able to carry a heavy load fast.....
Boat and motor combo both effect that... if you have no experience, you need to do some research and do not believe everything you hear. These are a different animal and a lot of the things that you know about outboards will not apply. In fact, some things are the opposite of what you would think.
Good luck.

The design of the sport V is so much better? Lol that's hilarious.
The sport concept is a good concept...but the design and construction is fucking junk.

 Re: Gtr or sport v
So it sounds like the sport v is still garbage. That's disappointing. Cupped up you said what I was thinking better. I should've said concept instead of design. The concept is great. Also, I didn't say "fastest" for a reason lol. I know it's NEVER cheap to be the fastest in anything. I said as fast as possible. All I could hope for is that the faster boats aren't going to the spots I want to hunt because i can't afford to be the fastest and still pay the bills.

 Re: Gtr or sport v
I would stay away from the sport v, buying a Mb from chad and you don't have to worry about parts, chad will take care of you. Although the v has a bad track record, and is still having issues worked out. The gtr is a great motor, but the pads can be a pain. Like stated above, do some research! Every one of these designs has some issues, everything will of you run it like we do. Good choice on the boat, just keep researching. And prodrive actuator is not that slow, my questions is why do you have to have a super fast reverse, if you miss a turn?

 Re: Gtr or sport v
Dude, you can't come on here and ask these guys Sport V vs GTR. Many on here, not all, are die hard GTR and are completely blind to anything else.
The Sport V is by far a superior design. But they a are brand new. I'd wait a couple years before I got one. Let them work out the problems.
I have a MB 55 MAG and it's fast as hell and will go anywhere. But if I had to buy a new motor today I would probably get a GTR.
