 longtail kit
Going the kit route for a longtail. Just cant afford a new name brand set up. Going to get the 13 hp harbor freight engine for a 14 ft jon. Mainly be in mud and weeds. With that info is the best most affordable kit out there the Swamp Runner ? Not looking for speed, just get us there and back. Want the 13 in case we throw it on our 16 jon. Thanks for feedback.

 Re: longtail kit
The biggest problem is the aluminum props. They would last me on average about 2 minutes. I am not exaggerating. I left the launch and 3 props later I was only 100 yards from my truck. That was just from hitting the roots of lillies and arrowheads. The other problem is the flex of the shaft. The motor I have now I use as a lever to move the stern of the boat. With the SPS kit I had you are not able to do that. The other issue is the wooden bushings. I know people can use the argument that people have been using this method in Thailand for 100 years. This is true but we are not hunting on the meikong. I learned the hard way. Don do it bro

 Re: longtail kit
Look into the back water Swamp lite kit or something along those lines. I haven't heard anything good about those little thai/asian kits

 Re: longtail kit
That would work but go bigger. I had a 20hp on a 14/36 and ran pretty dam good with it

 Re: longtail kit
^ this, I have a 16hp from maxtool.com on a longtail frame I built on a 1436 and can bump 17mph empty and about 10mph loaded down with 2 extra guys, a dog, and gear. My buddy built a 20hp and the carrying capacity and empty speed went way up. If I were gonna do it all over again Id go at least 20hp and be done with it.

 Re: longtail kit
Yep, When I bought mine it was labeled a durostar, but they have since changed the name to duromax. They run pretty damn good, i've got over 100 hrs on mine without any issues.
