Post Motor frame loose
I noticed today that the frame is rocking back and forth where the main bolt goes through at. The bolt that the motor moves up and down on. Is there bushing that might be worn out?

Mine has the same play, doesn't sound as bad as yours though. Reckon what wore out first...the aluminum or the steel nut and bolt?

What spot are talking about?

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1409492176.076364.jpg

The mid section (which is the vertical piece) that the motor turns left and right on. - there are two bushings (top and bottom)

The steering tube bolt is the front bolt that connects the transom mounts and allows the midsection and entire motor to kick up and down (two nuts on an aluminum threaded rod, no bushings) called the steering tube because if you have a console motor that is hollow for the steering ram rod to go through for hydraulic steering.

Or

Where the mid section bolts to belt housing (two bushings on each side that require cutting to fit inside)

Either way if one part is loose, the others prob won't be far behind. If you are replacing one might as well replace all.

Mid section bolt has to be pushed out upward enough to get top bushing out then pushed out from the bottom to get the bottom bushing out.

No problem.

How many hours on your motor?

You're going to have to pull the motor off the boat anyway to pull that apart.

It's Not but a few more bolts to replace the bushings.

Doesn't mean you HAVE to just saying might as well with it off

Motor has just over 200 hrs. How hard is it to change all of it. Cuz I don't want to be down for teal season if I mess something up.

Really pretty easy, not much to go wrong with taking those parts off

Removing the nuts and bolts and lining back up to bolt back together is hardest part.

Extra set of hands is very helpful

Rubber mallet and/or block of wood is a must to tap out the steering bolt and midsection bolt.

That bolt is aluminum with two big nuts that's why it wears out the bolt in the mid section is still with upper and lower plastic bushings

You can turn the bolt over 180 degrees or run it a half inch to one side and it will take the slack out. Just saying if you didn't have the means to pull it all down right now.

Like Pete was saying it can be loose in 5 different places.

This is the last one I did and should fix the problem with the vertical pivot point.

It definitely could use a couple bushings there for sure.

This is the frames top vertical pivot pin when I pulled it

Got a friend to weld it up

This is what ate it up and should have bushings.

So I install a stainless bushing/liner all the way through.

Also because the pivot pin was worn it put more load on the bottom pin causing it to wear. So it was replaced.

if you tighten the nuts will it make motor a little stiffer to turn? I'm not talking going gorilla on them just tighten up a little to add a little resistance to tiller.
