 Boat flotation or foam
I already performed a search.
But my question wasn't exactly answered.
I have a tracker grizzly 1648 ( garbage hull, I know) If I cut the foam out of the boat. Is it more likely to sag in the water because the floatation is gone? Or will the removed weight allow the boat to draft higher in the water? I want to cut the rear bench out of my tracker grizzly. The boat sits back ( weight In the rear) in the water a lot. Don't wanna redistribute more people to the front or else the boat will plow.
Does the floatation actually help the boat float? Or does it keep the boat from sinking if u take on a shit load of water?

 Re: Boat flotation or foam
Foam only helps once water is in the boat.

Put in a garbage can and weigh it. If it's dry it won't be that much. If it's wet it may weigh a ton.

 Re: Boat flotation or foam
Be carefully cutting seat out of a tin can boat. The way they are designed the seat tie yhe boat together and give rigidity.

 Re: Boat flotation or foam
Yea I was thinking that. I'm going to cut a rectangular hole, remove the foam, not the bench completely and use it as storage

 Re: Boat flotation or foam
I know I am among foam haters here, but I encourage you to leave the foam in your boat if it is not water logged. To answer the last question in your original post: Yes, the foam is supposed to keep the boat from sinking if you take on a "shit load of water"

 Re: Boat flotation or foam
I cut a hole in the top of both of the seats in my smaller riveted boat, took a large wood hole bit and a shop vac and went to town on the foam until i could pull out larger chunks... Once the foam was all out I added a a hatch to each seat and use the seats as storage... I pulled 150lbs of foam out...

Damnnn that's a small person! If and when I do it, my boat should sit better. Thanks for the idea of the wood bit and shop vac.
