Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Look man(Hookedup711), this adventure is not about busting anybody's speed record. The speeds were just posted as informative statistics. We're not out to compete, just trying something new and an alternative option to those who wish to change power heads or those who's factory engine has let them down and want a different option (a B&S cracked block is what started this)
Once again, if you or anyone else cannot provide a positive or helpful post to this subject, please do not cloud up this thread with bullshit.

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Motor is still impressing me all the time. Made a run down river to go meet a friend. Me, my oldest (15 bout 135) 5 doz deks, icechest, hunting bags, guns, 14 gal of fuel, mojo, food, held 33.8 bumped 34 for the 16 mile run. Held 4740 rpm's for the entire 16 mile trip. The briggs fuel pump definitely helped with the long runs. On the way back up river against the current, held 33.1. Was a few gal of fuel lighter, but still rolling. I currently have about 25 hrs on it and it seems to be getting faster and stronger the more I run it.

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Good thread so far... Minus the BS.
I have been following progress.
Contemplating performance parts for my B&S, I ran across this thread. I have half a mind to go ahead and pull the trigger on one of these for a new power plant.
Have any of you done further research into remapping the EFI version? It would me great to be able to tune them and at least raise the governor...

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
I used FX921V-S04 Since I was going to replace the carb, thought it made sense to save the money. The Mikunis are available on amazon right now for $280 including shipping.

Yup. Its 108.8.... The short shaft model number ends in 00 instead of 04.

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
two different springs. A set of 2 for the intake and 1 for the exhaust. They are different sizes. All I did was change out the intake springs due to valve float. But I'm the only one running aftermarket springs as of now because I'm the only one turning up close to 5000 rpms. Needed stiffer springs for intake. All of this information is within the 20 pages. Some BS from clowns, but its all there.

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Ok. I didn't see where it was said that it was intake only.
Did the cam builder not think it was necessary to install a different spring on the exhuast valve? I would have thought that it would start floating also at the higher RPM, unless it was a heavier spring to start with...

I am really glad someone was able to sift past all the BS and take to good info to get a new motor.
I think you will be really happy SpecialK

Yes the cam builder stated 36 lb springs were recomended for this grind but he don't sell these springs you gotta find them on your own

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Gotcha. I just wanted to make sure of what was working. My plan is to go with what Banded has right now...more or less.
Y'all have put down so much effort, it would be ignorant of me not to use it to my benefit and as a starting point. My boat is a 17x54 Gator trax with a 3/16 bottom. If I can get it to produce anywhere near what Banded has posted, I may not even push it any further. 35mph is F@%k!ng fast in a tiller drive "john boat"...
Thanks for all of the info so far!!!

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Here's my latest exhaust, I don't think I posted pics of it yet. Pretty simple runs really good but not necessarily whatcha'd call quiet either. It has maybe 60 hrs w/o any problems. Short header design doesn't provide the optimum in performance but the cam grind I went with will not stand any restriction.

What about it doesn't like restriction? (Learning, and that statement has me curious)

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
There's an eternal argument about back pressure in the performance world and I subscribe to the school of "NONE" for several reasons. Mainly that I actually want a high perf engines exhaust to participate in the scavenging effect that can be accomplished with the correct amount of overlap between the intake and exhaust lobe. For our application I've found that I prefer a tight LSA and this particular cam has is a 104 which produces more low end torque but creates a fairly narrow powerband with a higher peak HP. To finally answer your question, this cam is greatly affected by any exhaust restriction whereas the more common 108 LSA (broad powerband) having less overlap is not nearly as finicky about it...

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Yes I'm running a 308 plus 6 right now and it's pulling good to 4600 trying to bring rpm range up a bit and support the maximum flow of the heads according to the flow bench numbers so I increased lift and changed cam timing to see if we can bring it to its full potential if it doesn't work I will go back to a mod 1 plus 4 or slightly larger at the moment the cam I'm trying has a lot more lift than the 310
