 Prodrive newbie
Well to start I picked up a 04 prodrive with 183hrs on it. Looks in a little rough shape but seems to run and sound solid. The lower unit is leaking (I knew that when I bought). Seller apparently had it checked over by a dealer and it checked out other then seal leak. The guy I bought it off of did throw In the 2 lower seals and the upper. First question do you think I should replace the upper right away or just the lower seal? Also when I picked it up the reverse seemed to work decent in the shop but today at home seems to work like chit and have to hold it with my foot to get it to ratchet around. The grease is thick and sticky would that keep it from working properly or do I have a bigger issue? I'm new to these being I've only run long tails.

 Re: Prodrive newbie
Doesn't that knob on the lower part of the engine hold tension for the manual reverse to ratchet?? Tried snugging it up some?

 Re: Prodrive newbie
Did that still moves with the power head but a lot harder. Gotta push it over with my foot then it will ratchet once or twice and have to kick it again.

 Re: Prodrive newbie
How does it work in the water? If that's how it works in the trailer, how much does that really matter?

 Re: Prodrive newbie
No idea how it works in the water we have 20" of hard water on top of the lakes right now. Lol just concerned cause videos the lower unit is just suppose to spin around. I don't think this motor was maintained to well which drives me crazy cause I'm OCD about maintaining my gear for hunting

 Re: Prodrive newbie
Maybe 10 degrees at night 25-30 during the day. The old grease is thick like honey. Also there is lower unit fluid that came out by the clutch housing the last time the guy hunted with it. Is this normal with a bad seal?

 Re: Prodrive newbie
A unit that old would benefit from pulling the powerhead and removing the reverse assembly and cleaning out all of the old grease.

 Re: Prodrive newbie
Do yourself a favor and send the lower half of the lower unit back and let them convert it to a grease filled lower. Not out the box expensive and worth every penny.

 Re: Prodrive newbie
I'm gonna replace the reverse pin good chance that it is just worn out. Gatortails are nice motors but I guess I'm partial to prodrive.

 Re: Prodrive newbie
I have nothing against pro-drive. I just prefer the instant reverse. There both good mud motors. Let us know how everything works out.

 Re: Prodrive newbie
Yes the grease conversion would be a good idea if you plan to keep the motor for a little while.

 Re: Prodrive newbie
Figured since its a balmy 8 degrees and I'm off I might as well go to pound town on her. Highly not recommended lifting the power head off by hand by yourself.... I'm gonna go dig for my nuts in the snow now pretty sure they blew off!
