 Crawfish boiler.
Just about done with a crawfish boiler we building and thought I would give a few of y'all some ideas if you want to build one. All 1/8 alum with a 2x2 stainless stand with burner. 20" x 24" pot 16" tall. Has hinges for the strainer to tilt over to dump the crawfish out. Haven't finished the lid yet but the crawfish will fall onto it and slide down into a ice chest. Don't know exactly how much this will cook but I'm guessing 50 lbs or better.
I know this is old news to everyone down south but some might not know about them.
Will post pictures when I finish.

 Re: Crawfish boiler.
Did you buy or make your burner(s)?
I am just about to get done making a new pot myself (2'x4' and 2' tall) and cant find any store bought burners that I like, so I have been dabbling with making my own.

 Re: Crawfish boiler.
I wanted to build burners like this but my dad thought otherwise. I built I a fish cooker stand with one of those. When I build mine it will have burners like that.

 Re: Crawfish boiler.
Looks good North La Hunter.
Check out what I did on mine. I had built a bunch of these a while back, and built myself one while I was at it. On mine, I made the void created by the angle on the basket a little bigger and ran two 3" boiler tubes through it just like on a cajun fryer. It took a lot more fab work then just using a boiler stand but it worked out awesome. It is way more effiecient. I loose nothing from the flame rolling up the side the pot, have no impacts from things like wind, and you can stand right by it without burning your legs. I can boil 100lbs at a time using as much gas as a sack on a regular jet burner. If I ever get caught up on boats and other jobs I'm going to build me a smaller one and try to improve on it even more.

 Re: Crawfish boiler.
North La Hunter,
on the other ones I built, I used the 10" cast iron Banjo burners and had pretty good luck with them. I ended up building a stainless skirt out of flat bar to keep the heat directed under the pot and it really improved the boil times.

They're selling them at Sam's in Metairie for dang near a thousand. Might make you a few bucks selling a few. I just can't see having one that big considering I may boil 5 to 6 times a year. But would be sweet!

 Re: Crawfish boiler.
Man these boilers are super nice, they would work slick as shit for lobster too, we usually just have a pot on a burner. How many BTU's are the burners you are running? I modified my burner and took out the old one and added a 500,000 BTU torch and a free flow regulator it is an open stove so it is not very efficient. I bet it would rock your unit though. I would imagine you could get these some where in the states http://www.grainger.com/product/WESTWAR ... orch-2CZD5Later Phil

North LA, Im fixing to start on mine. Did you ever make one any smaller? I want mine 16" sides 16" bottom and 36" wide. have any input? What made you go with drilled plate VS expanded metal?

 Re: Crawfish boiler.
Did you use a drill or a punch press? Also what burner did you use? Would you do anything different if you made another one? Sorry for all the questions

 Re: Crawfish boiler.
I just have 5 regular pots (50-60lbs of crawfish each), 5 jet burners, and 5 propane tanks. I like having a few over one. Gives options on how to cook em. You can cook about 8 sacks at a time, or start some 10/20/30 min ect.. after to keep em fresh and from getting cold. Reasonably cheap too. Lots of garage sale finds round here. For how little catering I do and the versatility, I rather my setup. Propane is a little more but it's not too bad. Plus when catering that's the customers cost.

 Re: Crawfish boiler.
I'll attest to Capt. JJ's cookers. Just like his boats and pretty much anything else Justin puts together, they're awesome. As long as you don't go in 50/50 with him on buying a whole tray of about 40 Jagermeister shots from a semi-hot shot girl, most everything he starts ends well. We negotiated a good price for her whole inventory, but even some great bargains should still be passed up.
Here's a different shot of one of his cookers. This one doesn't have his internal burner tube set up, but it gets going damn well with the banjo burner.
