The stock springs were measured on two different engines. I was there when the 4 springs were measured. The century springs that I have are 30 lb springs. They do make a smaller diameter spring ghat is smaller than stock, but it's only 24 lbs. I'm sure you can get some custom made but $$$ might be too much. Mine measured 15 and 18 on 1 head. I know mine floated with the stock springs and 310 +4. You could hear it. I just kept it under 4500 until I got the century springs that I'm running now.

I will add, I would like to not see valve float happen until over 5000 rpms. I wont run that hard, but it would be nice to have a buffer...

Interesting. I thought at one point you said the century spring were still floating. What size shim are you using if any?

As soon as I get information from this spring guy, I will post it. He seemed interested in what we were doing and eager to help...

10-4.
One thing I noticed about the stock springs is that the coating is coming off just from handling them. I will be anxious to see what this spring company has to say.

Weeeelp. Got the modified pushrods and carb installed today.

Muffler should be completed by Tuesday. Going to do a bit of carb tuning and try to get her in the water next weekend.

Polished carb lol. I bought it on ebay. Not sure if it was a Mikuni screw up or the seller. The box had the un polished part number, but that carb was in it. But for the price, I didnt complain.

The fact that you can see the lifter stem is nice. I actually found some of the old aluminum rods and cut them down. Makes the geometry much closer to stock...

I know Lee is waiting g on a new grind. Waiting to see how it does before I decide to possibly make a change. But also working on an advancement timing key. Been out of commission with my hand surgery.

Im pondering on what to do with mine. I am going to try out the .310 and the stocker.
Wait and see what I think between the two then have the .310 reground to what I decide on. May see how Lee's new grind performs and try something similar but mew to see what results I get...

This may be more of a general question... But. I fired up the Kawi for the first time. After messing with air fuel and idle for a few minutes i got it idling smooth.

I was looking around at it and when putting my hand under the heads, cylinder #1's exhaust is noticeably hotter than #2. What should I be checking?

I havent even gotten that far. Have not even given it throttle yet. Just idling. Its almost acting as though #2 is not firing, but I just check spark and it looks good.
I can see a small amount of flame out of the number 1 exhaust, but the number 2 is clear... I will check a few other things, but I am not at a point that I am ready to check for lean/rich conditions...

Check for spark and check intake gaskets for leaks

Definitely sounds more like a misfire to me, sorta sounds normal idling and unloaded accelerating. The steel cowling can pinch the kill (ground) wire pretty easy when it's replaced. I did it once...

Trying to understand the train of thought here...
With one carb, spliting into the intake, why would ine cylinder be lean?

Like Todd said your air fuel mixture if off it will run on one cylinder cause the other isn't getting proper air fuel mixture (lean on one side )

Post Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
So th problem end up being that the coil for cylinder 2 was not close enough to the flywheel and wasn't firing all of the time. It is now so all seems well.

I am still trying to figure out which way to go with the tuning.
The Mikuni manual states the following.
NOTE:
1. If the best idle is achieved with the air screw less than one turn out, the pilot jet is too small and should be exchanged for a larger one.
2. If the engine speed does not slow after two-and-a-half turns out, the pilot jet is too large and should be exchanged for a smaller one.

Both of these are kind of true. With the idle screw more than half a turn out, it seems to be fine. There is a change if it goes in to a wuarter turn. If it is 4 turns out, it starts bouncing a little. I would think the pilot is ok...

I did want to ask, has anyone measure the head temperature at idle? I may just be over cautious, but the valve cover seem hot.

With no load you can set idle a little on the lean side. That is if it runs well there...

Mines idled great at 14.5:1 at 800rpm in gear.

I have measured temp but only with an iR gun. Not a very accurate way to tell, but all was ok. Even running hard the sump, and oil cooler would only reach about 195. Keep in mind, that's external temps. Internal will be a little higher.

There is a good reason I am not an electrician. ...
Can anyone tell me where the green and black wires are supposed to go? They come with a small white connector.
I am assumining this is why my chargin system is not working.

EDIT...

I figured out that the wires in question were for the carb solenoid.
The new question is can they be removed...?

Just caught your post... Your gonna need the black one! Haha, that's your kill wire as you know now. The green fuel solenoid can be removed. ;)

Wierd. I dont have either of them hook up but it still kills with the key. The black wire I am referring to is only about 6" longs with a ring connector on it like it is supposed to be the ground for the solenoid...Its only connected to the plug that hooked into the solenoid.

I just noticed that my rectifier was not tightened down so that may be my problem with the charging system. I am assuming it grounds through the mounting flanges.
I am going to rob the tiny tach off of my briggs because the new one has not come in yet. When I put it on tomorrow, I will check to make sure it is charging. If so, its off for a test run on Sunday...:-)
