 Best rain jacket?
Who makes the best rain jacket? I purchased a ago from cabelas last year for around $90 I believe and I finally had the chance to use it during teal season. This is the biggest pos. I was soaked after 5 minutes of using it. It did not stop any water. Cabelas no longer carries it so I doubt I can return it. So now I am looking for a rain jacket so I don't get soaking wet!

 Re: Best rain jacket?
I wear Guy Cotton rain jacket and bibs everyday comm fishing. I really like the set. I get about two years per bibs and three maybe four years on the jacket.

 Re: Best rain jacket?
They would last several years if not used in a comm fishing environment. My bibs get a good workout daily.

 Re: Best rain jacket?
Depends on what type of wear they'll be seeing. My frogg togg tops and bottoms kept my bone dry bass fishing in a downpour last weekend.

 Re: Best rain jacket?
Call Cabelas and tell them exactly what your problems with it are. I'll bet they make it right whether they still carry it or not.

I've got a really stout Carhartt rain jacket that i got a few years ago. Tough as nails and keeps me bone dry.

How much are you looking to spend and do you want it for hunting or fishing? I've had several high end rain jackets now and feel like I can point you in the right direction..

 Re: Best rain jacket?
I have had two Patagonia jackets that were gifts and they lasted very well but cost as much as a used shotgun! I can never seem to find what I really want in a good rain suit for fishing and hunting so I am interested in the opinions that are offered here too. I would like to spend no more than $400 to $450 for bibs and jacket if at all possible

 Re: Best rain jacket?
Honestly the new Pilot frog toggs are an excellent rain jacket. They're 130 for the top and same price for bibs, another good one that you can't use for hunting since it's got a little neon are the new Huk rain suits and they've got them on sale for 150 for the tops and 150 for the bottom where they're normally 250 full price. Also any of the Frabil offerings are good and they've got them priced pretty fair. Those are probably your best options for a non gore-tex rain suit. But you'll have to live with black because most of those offerings don't come in camo. It seems not many people make a quality camo rain jacket for a decent price. But if you want top of the line stuff there's Sitka, Simms, Stormr, or Gill. I will be purchasing a Sitka Delta wading jacket soon so I'll let y'all know how I like it..

 Re: Best rain jacket?
huck, the old gore text stuff is WAY better than new. military wise. the new stuff will still get wet if you sit in it for a while. especially if your laying on a range shooting in it, when you get up and open it,you whole front side will be wet. I dunno where it went wrong...... oh wait, it's made by the cheapest bidder. lol. it's good otherwise, but it doesn't breathe very well and will smoke your ass in the summer time

 Re: Best rain jacket?
Tyler, apparently the military grade stuff isn't as good as the normal grade gore-tex or they just told you it was gore-tex. Mine breathes extremely well and I have no problems wearing it if it's 80 degrees and raining and I have fished tournaments in some extreme downpours and I don't think I've ever been wet..

 Re: Best rain jacket?
Take a look at the game winner stuff from academy. I've been very pleased with the lightweight jacket I got being windproof and waterproof (they also have some water resistant stuff, so look at the tags to make sure you get one that's waterproof). Sat in the rain more than once last year and never had an issue with the lightweight or the thick one. Even waded too deep once and the inside of the pockets stayed dry or I'd have been buying a new phone. People say you get what you pay for. Spend what you want, but at least take a look at them.

 Re: Best rain jacket?
Cabellas Guidewear is pretty amazing I have had a set (bibs and jacket) for a few years now and I haven't been wet yet. I was in the rain last Sunday for several hours and stayed dry. It is also lightweight and breathable so I wear it year round with no complaints. It's not the cheapest but it is the best I've worn, my brother in law bought a similar knock off set from Cabellas for half price and he can't stay dry in it. My advice would be don't go cheap or you will be buying again.

I been having a cabelas dri-plus 4 in 1 parka for about 11 years now, and it's kept me warm and dry to this day. I'd buy another one without hesitation

The best rain gear you can buy is a roof over your head. I try not to go in a downpour. I have an UA jacket that did me good last year.

I have tried both the Mossy Oak Rain Tamer and currently have a Drake set of rain gear, honestly....both junk!! I get soaked to the bone in both!! If I had to pick one though....the Rain Tamer is the better of the two.....takes a little longer to get soaked!

 Re: Best rain jacket?
I've had the same pair of frog togs for 4 years. They work well. But that's more of a fishing setup
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

 Re: Best rain jacket?
Just went with the frogg togg toad rage. I'm in SC where it hardly gets cold but we been gettin a good bit of winter rain the last couple years. I had been using the regular frogg toggs pant and jacket set until some one took them from the boat. I wade 99% so with the jacket and waders I stay dry and just wear something warm under if it gets cooler. Light durable I paid $62 ordered off eBay it was just cheaper than all the other sites. Maxx 5 color with adjustable hood too.
