 Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
Which brand do you prefer? Looking at new small welders and trying to decide between the 2. One is the Millermatic 211 and the other is the Lincoln POWER MIGĀ® 210 MP. I will be getting a spool gun for it as well. Will be using it around the house and not building any boats or anything, just general use. Give me your thoughts.

Can't go wrong with a miller. As said both are good options

I prefer Miller but that's just me. Both machines are good.

Re: Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
I have a Lincoln and a Miller. Both have been trouble-free and I'd be comfortable buying either. Buy more machine than you think you need, especially if you're planning on getting a spool gun for aluminum. Aluminum is power hungry.

Hobart 210. Considerably cheaper. Same warranty as miller
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Re: Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
He didn't ask about hobart. The Hobart has less duty cycle at specific amps, lower max amperage output, and isn't considerably cheaper. Less than 10% difference in price normally, and two months ago, the miller could have been had for just under 800, which was cheaper than the hobart. Sales are wonderful. The hobart also weighs twice as much with the same equipment connected than both the miller and Lincoln he's considering.
OP, it seems to come down more to brand loyalty between those two models, as they're both good machines. The lincoln has a bit higher duty cycle than the miller, though. I would consider if either brand is sold locally, as having someone decent and local that knows the machines is usually much more helpful (I find this to be applicable with many tools and toys).

X2 on what Russ said. Many of my purchases depend on what is sold locally because parts and service are usually needed with anything I use regularly. Lol

 Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
I have a lincoln and i've been happy with it. It was considerably less expensive to set up the lincoln for a spool gun when i was shopping. If you plan on welding aluminum, you might look into the cost of the options. I don't think you can go wrong with either brand though.
If this really a hobby machine that you won't use for a living, i'd recommend you look into the eastwood machines too. I bought a small one for doing steel work so i don't have to swap out guns between steel and aluminum. It's been very good to me and the price and service is hard to beat. Med bought one of the bigger setups And is in the process finishing up a boat with it. He seemed happy about it last i talked to him. Its no big pulse welding machine or anything, but neither is the 211 or the 210.

Re: Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
Thanks for all the replies. I can get local support for either one just fine which is good for me. I was just wanting to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with one or the other that I would find out about after I had bought one. Russ I have been looking at these for a while off and on and just missed the rebate last month on the Miller, I think it was $400. I have always used Miller and had good luck with them. The Lincoln comes with leads for stick welding also, and you can add a tig torch to it. As far as I can tell the Miller will only do mig or aluminum which is fine because that is the reason for buying it, but it doesn't hurt to have the options of the Lincoln.

I have all lincoln machines and have been very pleased. The 210 is a very nice machine for the money. It has a really smooth tig arc if you ever decide to use it for that process.

Re: Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
i used the miller 211 and spoolmate 100 for awhile before i stepped up to a bigger machine. built 5 boats with it no problems. it wont run 5356 wire but will weld 4043 all day long. great machine for its size. it also has the mvp plug so you can run off 110 or 220.

Re: Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
I have the older MM210. It a bigger version than the suit case model. Mine has a bottle rack and such. But I can say as far as duty cycle, I have welded 1/2" steel plate for long period of time and never hit the duty cycle. Then again I have also welded 22 ga sheet metal with it also. The spool guns are different for the suit case models. I have the 3035 spoolmate and run .035 wire. Never had an issue with it and have welded 3/8 aluminum plate with no issues either. Also .100 ga on my hull with no issues. Again, like Russ stated, either is a great machine. Only reason I went with Miller years ago, is because its the only one TNT welding had in stock when I went in the store.

Re: Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
Thanks for all the replies. Now if one of them would offer a big rebate it would be great. Still can't believe I missed the $400 miller rebate last month.

Their last rebate was valid from March 15 through the end of December, so maybe they'll put another one up in a week or two. Good luck.

Re: Welder questions/suggestions Miller or Lincoln?
I've had the aluminum setting up to 7, but was too hot, dialed it back to 6. Steel, highest setting was 6, never went to 7. So never really had either dialed all the way up to 7.

Thanks North LA Hunter for the info. That must have just started, I didn't see it offered 2 weeks ago. Now have to send in the rebate form.
