Post Question for you gun Gurus!
I finally talked the wife into letting me get another gun. My first AR-15. 2.23/5.56. Bought a cheaper one, as it will be used simply for pig hunting, and messing around. Really bought it cause our government is trying to ban them.
Few questions about it.

I'm not really wanting a scope, but I'd really like to at least put a red dot sight on it, as it doesn't even have the iron sights on it.
Where is the best place to get a red dot sight?
Are all AR-15 magazines interchangeable? Can I buy any AR-15 magazine and it will most likely work? Where's the best place to get these things for my gun? It seems that some 30 round magazines are hard to find, but some other brand 30 rounders are available.
I'm not into building these things, and this is my first semi-Auto rifle. Not familiar with it yet, but im getting there.

Any help is great.

Get an aim point T1 micro unless you are going the cheap route. Vortex and bushnell red dots ain't bad. No particular vendor so Google and watch out for fakes. Check out botach tactical. All AR mags are interchangeable. You ain't going to Afghanistan, so any GI or magpul mag will do. Stay away from the pro mags and no name shit.

I just bought a lower and I'm going to get a 10.5 barrel and file for a SBR (short barrel rife) then I'm going to put a suppressor on it. Should be a pig killing machine.
That's if I can get all that in before 7/13 with out the wife finding out..lol

Yeah, I don't know much either. I've always wanted a .22 suppressor. There is a new law taking affect on 7/13 that will make it more of a pain to get one.
So I went and made a gun trust and filed for a suppressor Friday. The wait will be about 4 months if I'm lucky. Hopefully I'll pop some with that too.

When I was getting the .22 I decided to make the SBR, before them bitches outlaw them, like you were saying..

Law change isn't all that bad. The only changes are that you do not need the chief LEO's permission now. They just get notified but cannot deny. Also, everyone on your trust must be fingerprinted. That's the only changes.

I'm assuming you have a flat top receiver?

I picked this up from Cabela's pretty cheap and it is not a bad red dot optic at all. Put it on a .300 BLK build....that I'm going to use when we go slaughter pigs together! LOL It's listed on their website for $129.... but, I think I got it for $79 + tax here at the store.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/SELLMARK ... lsrc=aw.ds

Seems like I saw a recent advertisement for this one on sale somewhere, again. Maybe Slickguns.com or something?

Yes...the .223 is flat out LOUD. Pretty much all AR mags are interchangable. I am liking the plastic magazines..the Magpul PMAGS are probably one of the more common....I ended up with some Troy Industry Battlemags to which I am partial....has nothing to do with "Troy." LOL

Also...the advice of PSA's website is good advice for other accessories/upgrades/changes to your weapon. They always have some pretty good sales. Get on their email list or just go set up an account to get notified when things you want are back in stock.

Best advice I can give you is to spend a little more and get a aim point. I've been down this road before and bought a cheep scope, it fell apart from the screws falling out,to the cross hairs jogging all over the place! Does it have front sights?

It has red or green color options for four different reticle options, and four or five different brightness intensities.

Easy to adjust and operate, QD mounts and is "weather resistant"....whatever that means. It also has a neoprene cover. If you come BR way, let me know and I'll let ha take a look at it.

Nice... good buy! Have fun with your new acquisition!

As stated above, yes all ar 15 mags will interchange. I run gi mags because I have a ton of them.

I have an eotech and an Aim point. I like the eotechs better but that is me.

I do not want to divorce you... but if you are wanting to kill pigs, look into an AR10. Very similar to what you have... accept it slings .308's. I have been laying waste to the pigs with mine for years now. I just built an 8 1/2" 300 blackout to run subsonic. It is pretty cool but if I could only choose 1 it would be the 10

Buying cheap shitty red dots is the most magnificent waste of money you can imagine. Learn to shoot iron sights, and save your money till you can get an Aimpoint PRO.

A set of Magpul flip up backup iron sights is cheap, and should be considered necessary equipment on any AR-15 anyhow. Get some, and learn how to use them while you save.

If you are worried about shooting at night, set a flashlight up to hit your front sight post.

Fundamentally, this is a way better short term path forward than buying a piece of shit $80 red dot

Post Re: Question for you gun Gurus!
41P is a bad thing for folks who use a trust. Those of us who file Form 1s and 4s as individuals are happy. No more messing with CLEOs. Just file my paperwork and draft a letter informing.

The downsides of 41P are if you intend on using a trust to purchase class 3 products. Prior to 41P, which isn't effect yet, a trust or LLC allowed one to circumvent the CLEO sign off. It didn't allow prohibited persons to buy as some erroneously think either. It helped those with CLEO's who refused to sign. Without that signature, no stamp for you! Being as that the ATF considered the trust and LLC an entity and that entity owned the class 3 products, no CLEO signature was needed. Just sent a copy of the trust or LLC with the form 1 or 4.

Now, Obama and most Liberals seems to think that allowed prohibited persons to own class 3 products. It did not. The trust and LLC members still had a background check done, just no photo or fingerprints were checked. Which, honestly doesn't amount to a hill of beans since no one in their right mind would be so dedicatedly stupid of a criminal as to illegally-legally purchase class 3 when it's much easier, cheaper I might add also, to just buy them on the streets without all that. So, the draft 41P. Which as soon as it takes effect, if filing a Form 1 or 4 or any of the others a trust or LLC, all members of the trust or LLC must also submit fingerprint cards and photos. Basically, it's the same process as all of us who do it as individuals have done since 1934.

The CLEO requirement was removed to discourage trust and LLC use as well.

You can bank on the ATF taking 5 months to get you class 3 stuff done . The 41p frenzy might back that up.

I run a 1.75-5 variable up top and a quikpoint on a 45 degree mount for coyotes. Works out nicely when pushing the ravines and alfalfa field with hounds.

Well, its not letting me post a picture of the damn gun, but anyways.

Im not going to do much with it, besides hunt pigs, and wait on someone to come and try to take it

Im at work now, but did find some 223 rounds for about $.37 a round, and picked up (2) 60 round magazines for $20 each.
Took the wife shoot, and its fun to shoot. She likes it cause it doesn't kick, just Loud.

Post Question for you gun Gurus!
There are a ton of forums out there for Ar's too.

Just be careful there are some less reliable weapons being made and pushed out there.

I have been a bushmaster guy for ever and a firearms trainer among other areas for 15 years plus, using AR platforms and others all while I was in the military. Not an expert but well versed on long guns.

Something to think about. Don't go cheap. That pig gun may save your rear one day.

Used correctly an AR platform is one of the best home defense weapons of all time

Let me say this to you, get remove able sights put on it as well as the electronic.

Electronic sights are an excellent move. I have used Eotech my entire career but recently they even have had some issues with zeroing if the batteries go dead

Here's a suggestion, always have iron sites that you can flip down. Is case of a electronic fail they can save you when they can be flipped back up

Personally I am a proponent of cohesive sites. Learning to shoot with both up but relying on the electronic while they are on.

Just a thought.

And building one is easy, not always cheaper but much more willing to be rewarding in the end.

Good luck

Nash
