Uncle J 1848/GTR 37 EFI Review
MM Brand: Gatortail Horsepower: 37 Boat Brand: Uncle J Custom Build Boat Size: 1848 Boat Layout: Open w/Saddle Pods & Middle Drop in
Speeds | Shallow Water: N/A Speeds | Deep Water: N/A Total Boat Load With Gear Etc: N/A Conditions Tested In: N/A
What's up fella's? Just picked up the new rig from Jason yesterday and figured I'd post up a little review. After browsing the forum for some time and wanting another rig, figured I'd go the custom route this time and build something more suitable to my needs than going the standard factory route. Gave Jason a call and kicked around a few ideas to get the ball rolling, and he quickly replied with a quote and supplied me with the numbers I liked so I sent him over a deposit to secure my spot and the waiting began. I have to say that Jason is a very awesome person to deal with, very easy to get in touch with and was willing to go out of his way to meet my needs on this rig so props to him for being a stand up guy and great business person. Anyhow, I decided to run an 1848 hull, extended deck, pointed bow, hunt deck and saddle pods. Seen a few rigs recently with this design and liked the idea/functionality of the saddle pods for a little extra storage without having to compromise space and have a full blown gun/rod box etc. I also wanted a removable drop in section in between the pods to cover the gap, and Jason and his crew killed it! Something I never thought of which he went ahead and did on his own was throw a seat pedestal mount on the drop in section for when I fish, can fold up the tiller on my motor and throw a seat up there and have some elevation to be able to fish, which was cool. Ended up leaving the boat wide open, for when I hunt/frog/fish/run crawfish traps etc. I like to be able to move around in my boat and not have boxes and what not all in my way and have as much room as possible, and going with a more narrow hull to navigate timber and tight spaces allows me to do so. Ended up going with some custom paint instead of a standard flat color, gator glide on the bottom, and had Jason stick some hydroturf down for me on the build as well. Have a side console with cup holder/removable grab bar and a switch panel installed for nav lights, catwalk LED's and a wetsounds I have on order I'm going to stick under the front deck. Other than that, I tried to keep it as simple as I could and really just threw out there what I had in mind and Jason and his team really had very few questions on what I wanted this rig to look like and I have to say they knocked it out the park! Haven't been able to run it yet for I just picked it up yesterday and had a little bit of rigging etc. to do on my own but will have it on the water this week and see what kind of speeds it's going to get. First EFI I've owned, so I'm eager to see what the difference coming from a stage 1 carbed motor will be. Also have a Voodoo on the way but is on backorder, so once it comes in and I stick it on I'm sure my neighbors will love me. Overall, it was a pleasure dealing with Jason and his team who turned out a jam up rig for me fit and finished exactly like I wanted it. Would have to say that if anyone is in the market for a custom rig, I would definitely give Jason a call. He and his team went above and beyond for me on this one and I couldn't be more pleased with it!

Damn good looking boat my friend. I talked with Uncle J before I settled with a prodigy. I really liked their product but the fact prodigy is made in GA, which is where I live, helped make up my mind. My rig is almost exactly like yours but a hair wider so I'm curious to see you speeds with the stocked motor vs motor with exhaust. Please keep us updated and congrats again.

Re: Uncle J 1848/GTR 37 EFI Review
Finally found some time to finish out what little bit of rigging I had left to do on the rig this past week and was able to get it out on the water and run it some. With just me @ 180 lbs, my 60 lb. lab, 6 gallons of gas and an ice chest with some beer in deep water, boat ran an average of 28.5-29.5 consistently with the stock 3 blade prop turning around 4400 rpms. Ran closer to the bank in the shallow water trimmed all the way up and occasionally bumped the 30-30.3 mark. Went froggin' Friday night with 3 guys, 75 qt yeti, 20 qt yeti, 3 batteries, 6 gallons of gas and had consistent speeds holding between 25-26 mph, which was great considering the load I had in the boat. Had to do some weight shifting to attain those speeds to get the feel for the rig down/trim levels right but got it figured out and she did great! Decided to move the tank from the rear to the front, so ran new fuel lines yesterday and haven't ran it yet to see what kind of difference it will make yet. Voodoo has shipped and will be in this week and just sent off a big blade to get some work done on it, so eager to see if there's any difference with the new exhaust/2 blade compared to stock with the 3 blade. Overall, very impressed with the speeds/load carrying capabilities of the rig so far!

Re: Uncle J 1848/GTR 37 EFI Review
After having a week off and being in the boat a lot with the flood stuff going on in South LA and finally figuring out my trim/load placing sweet spots and installing the exhaust, I'd have to say exhaust definitely made a difference. Higher rpms, better throttle response, hole shot and planing definitely improved. Ran Saturday with myself(180lbs,) girlfriend(105lbs,) lab(60lbs,) 75 qt yeti with some ice/beer, and 6.5 gallons of gas and averaged 30.5 and touched over the 32 mark a few times with the help of some wind/current in my favor but.. Very impressed!
