 godevil flotation
anybody know if the 2 large pods in the rear of the gd provide stability or is it part of the structure of the boat? there was a thread a while back about gd recalling boats because there wasnt enough flotation and that you could have an additional "bench" placed in the boat that would provide the sufficient flotation. well i aint putting that in my boat. so i figured if its gonna sink already then i might as well cut the back pods out for more room. im already going to remove the foam in the front to put my gas tank like in my last gd. anybody?

 Re: godevil flotation
yeah i saw at the sportsman show they are putting the bench in the back with flotation. it was ugly as hell and they were bolted in for easy removal. they said all hull were coming with it mandatory. i've been contemplating cutting the pods out of my 16x38. i'm pretty sure they do have some support functions those boats are built like tanks so i don't think i will have to add anything.

 Re: godevil flotation
They won't sink, they just sit a lil lower than GD wanted them to. I sit on the pod to drive or fish, or whatever.

 Re: godevil flotation
I think it's gonna depend on either the year or size of the boat. My 06 16x56 has no braces or anything in those pods. My buddy's 08 18x60 has 3 braces in each one. Not sure if it's the year or size that makes the difference. I've pulled all the foam out of my pods because it was waterlogged. I will warn you that you will either have to put some kind of floor down where the pod is, or leave it as a drain gutter like in front of the seats because the floor stops at the pod. When I saw what would need to be done to fix it, I decided to leave them in and pull as much of the foam out as possible. Hope that helps.

 Re: godevil flotation
My pods aren't completly empty of foam. I have various thing mounted in my pods, so when i cut the holes to add something, i pulled more foam out. Switch panel, drop in drink holders, a radio, speakers. I had plenty enough ways to get into them thing. LOL!

 Re: godevil flotation
I would also like to see pics of that too, I have been thinking about doing the same. I did replace the foam under the floor and it was very water logged.

 Re: godevil flotation
I pulled out the foam from the side floatation panels, siliconed up the edges where theyre stitched to the runner, had lids made and now have 2 good nearly waterproof gun boxes.

 Re: godevil flotation
I have GD 1660 SD I removed all the floatation out of the pods. I had a machine shop build lids , and had them hinged, They also made a rim around the opening just like what is on the factory boxes, it looks factory. I can store 4 cased shotguns in each pod it makes a great gun box.
