Post Looking for some input
Want to buy a new rig and need help putting together optimal combo.

This will be a hunting and fishing boat but hunting takes precedent when it come to design. I hunt big water and typically have 3-4 guys and lots of gear.

I really want a center console unless someone can convince me otherwise. Would like to get max speed out of a single engine.

I would greatly appreciate any input.
Boat size?
Hull?
Motor?

I’m thinking something in the 2060 size with a hoss 75

I have had several boats, including a CC fishing boat that I just sold. I will never go back to a CC and would especially not recommend one for hunting. CC's eat up valuable floor space.

I have a 1754 Mod-V hunt deck (18'8" x ~56-58 the way Gtrax measures their hulls). 3 guys with decoys and lab is perfect. 4 guyts would be crowded for hunting, but probably doable.

The center console would take up WAY too much room for hunting out of the boat. Also it would get in they way of most blind systems. Even if you could get a blind up, it would cut off the front guys from the rear.

Mine is solely used for hunting. No extended front deck. Gas tank in the rear. two Gun boxes (haul guns, collapsible decoy retrievers, stand-up bar when not in use, etc).that double as benches. No catwalks. Leave it open as possible

Wow. You quoted the guy's post to counter, yet he was agreeing with you, although maybe not definitively that all CCs are bad.

He was only partially agreeing, claiming that a CC somehow doesn't take up floor space on a 2060 boat. The OP said hunting takes "precedent" in the design and seems intent on a CC unless we convince him otherwise. My opinion is there is NO benefit whatsoever of a CC in a hunting boat. As MNGunner pointed out, CC's do not work well in hunting boats for several reasons and to claim a CC doesn't take up floor space is just untrue.

He didn't imply it doesn't take up floor space. He said a 2060 has a lot and as long as you aren't hunting from the boat, it's fine. If you're hunting from it, the tiller is better. That's what he said, is it not?

OP, there are people on both sides of this. I have a 1748, and hunt out of a 2054 as much as I hunt out of mine. Both are tillers. The 2054 has more than enough space for hunting with a tiller or cc with 3 and a good chunk of gear, but it doesn't have a large front deck or any back deck or gun box or catwalks. Add any of that and the cc wouldn't work with 4 people to hunt. Add some width and that may or may not change, but it depends on what your definition of alot of gear is. It'll be fine transporting 3 or 4 sacks of decoys and a bunch of crap, and once the decoys are out you'd have that space back, so that's a decision you'll have to make. We hunt 5 in that 2054, so I'd bet it would wind up being your preference, and not as clear cut on mallard's opinion that it's bad. Your blind design would be more the driving force than floor space, I bet.

Bingo - a good tunnel like a G3 with hydrolic jack plate and a 90 Yamaha

That is what I had years ago to fill those needs and it hauled an azzload
down to the camp with those 4 guys

And a Semi-V hull or your hunting partners will be pretty pissed off at you after a run over choppy big water when they're soaked from all the spray and need back surgery from the pounding they took.

Subscribed....

But, back on topic....

I had 1854 CC. Had an Avery Quickset that worked fine with it. Enjoyed the CC because I had a lot of LONG boat rides. The heck with holding that tiller for 24 miles each way to the camp! The console also makes for a good wind break....and something to hide behind when busting through low hanging limbs and buck brush.

That’s my $0.02.

Russ....pass the popcorn, please!
