Who on here is still running an older model surface drive? Share your story? How old. How many hours etc etc.

Re: Old Surface Drive Rigs
I just got rid of a 2005 (I think) Godevil. No telling what the hours were on that thing it was a little beat up but fired up first try every time and never gave out on me in the couple years I had it on my 2001 GD boat.

My mid section and top half is a 2005 GTR. G-292. It has a 45 MPH powerhead on it.

Re: Old Surface Drive Rigs
my prodrive is old. serial #22. it had hand trim, now it's got winch trim. ratchet reverse. i'm on my 6th powerhead, had a 25 and 27 kholer, 32 generac, 27 kholer, 36 brigs, 36 brigs, and now 40 brigs. had several lower units, currently running a gen3 [ 2:1]. I like the setup I am running now. it's a beast in the floton.
the most hours I have gotten out of a powerhead was a little over 5000 hrs on my second 36 briggs. the current 40 only has 225hrs or so. after eating a pushrod at 100sumthin hours, it's settled down and seems to run fine.

Pair of 2011 mudbuddys with somewhere around 1000 hrs. Replaced belts and a lower unit on 1 last year. This year rear cover cracked on one and had to replace that. Also had a starter go out few yrs ago.

Re: Old Surface Drive Rigs
2008 Pro Drive. 460 hours and still runs like a champ. I did upgrade the lower unit to the grease fitting. Performance heads and just replaced my 10 year old BPS Crossover with a gutted SS exhaust.
Believe it or not I still have the original case gasket. Of course that run will probably end after posting this. LOL
If you don't mess with the guts, these motors will last a long time.

Re: Old Surface Drive Rigs
I have a 2010 MB Hyperdrive Frame with about 1000 hours on it. I changed the drive from 27" to 32" in 2013. I have replaced the clutch twice. Experimented way to much $$$. I'm on my 3rd engine. My first was a BD 4500 original 400 hours. Had the prerequisite case gasket issue and decided to install a cam and exhaust. Baffles came loose in the Q after 100 hours and ended up jacking up a cylinder. Upgraded or so I thought to a BAMF. It lasted for 200 hours until the block cracked. Now on my second BD 4500. No issues going in to my 4th year or knock on wood. I also changed the frame pivot assembly once. One particular road I travel is hell on he bushing assembly.

Re: Old Surface Drive Rigs
2008 Prodrive with manual FPR and hydraulic trim. Replaced the clutch not because it was worn out but because the wires corroded and broke right where it went into the clutch. New clutches have plug-in terminals. Marshmello exhaust holding up. Time to give the Mikuni a good cleaning. She idles a little rough.
I have maybe 350 hours on the motor.

Re: Old Surface Drive Rigs
2014 45 Black Death 800 hrs. 90% saltwater usage. I rebuilt the lower at 600 hrs. 4 mufflers. 2 stock SS and the last 2 were MB Q’s. Power head still runs fine but everything else has gone to shit because of saltwater. A lot more maintenance than any outboard. 4-5 cases of corrosion x has kept it going as long as it has. Trying to bandaid it together for a couple more years. EFI scares me because of the electrical problems I’ve had. Not sure what to replace it with. Can’t go back to an outboard.
