Post Spud receiver transducer mount
Anyone built a transducer mount to drop in the rear spud bracket? Seems pretty simple in my head, piece of 1" tubing with some holes drilled through it in two spots (up/down) and a hitch pin to hold it where you want it with the transducer on bottom? Am I missing something?

Just seems simpler and easier than welding something else to my transom...

I've got the ram kayak mount for mine. It works awesome! I'll get you a pic. Just not now, it's fucking snowing.....

Gotta be a solid connection somewhere. Too much vibration will distort your bottom definition real bad

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

I could put a threaded insert in the side of the spud holder and instead of hitch pins, I would just do a thumb screw type deal like all the other sliding transom mounts. That would take any vibration out of it. I really like the kayak mount but I think I've got everything sitting here to build the spud mount, and keep that $50 bill in my pocket for a change... The pics are much appreciated.

I use one of those clamp on jobbers you get from Cabela's. I had to modify it a little to work right but I like it. I use it to switch from both of my boats. My sonar is a portable unit tho too.

I have one of those ram mount transducer arms too. Works great to about 12 mph and then it sucks. It'll read out your speed and water temp but won't give depths because the transducer is moving too much.

I like that mount and it's clean and removable, but I'm about to spend another $50 to stabilize the bottom of the rod to hold it steady so it'll read depth at speed.

I'm going to try something like this first.... I can probably scab it together for the cost of two of those pins, the bracket is already welded on the boat. Why not right? As far as vibration goes. Any sort of movement should keep whatever small amount of slack that's in the fit out of it just with water pressure. It might suck.... Or it might be the best thing since corn flakes. Gonna give it a shot anyway. I'm not scuured to fail at it

I also have one of the ram transducer mounts. It works great when trolling along but it won't stay in place at anywhere past a fast idle. It wants to come up out the water. I think it may be due to the way I have mine mounted. I don't have a hunt deck so it runs straight down the back of my transom and the ball just acts as a pivot point. Good thing is I definitely don't have to worry about forgetting it in the water and then running over something and breaking the transducer. I can't get a depth reading while running but hey what do I need that for anyway. It's a mud boat.

I thought that at first, but then I thought why the hell did I spend money on this if it doesn't work all the time. I'm fixing mine cuz it's aggravating. I'll post pics once I get mine fixed.

That's awful fancy... Us simple ol GoDevil drivin folk probably couldn't figure out how to use that thing

I going to try to mount it tomorrow with some grey sch 80 PVC. My thought is that it will be plenty rigid and maybe give just a little if I'm trolling along and bump something. Two 5/16" hitch pins will be plenty to hold it where I want it.

I considered getting a piece of hat channel welded onto the transom and making a square sliding mount, then I saw the spud bracket sitting there and figured, why the hell not....

Yes it's a thru hull. Mine works flawlessly on an 18x54 Gatortail boat. Gives accurate depth readings from idle to 30 + Using a Lowrance HDS 5. I don't know how to use the fish finder part so I can't comment there.

I don't believe the alumaducer will work with my Lowrance with down imaging. I installed one in the past that worked decently well but it was in an Alumacraft boat.

Here's what I mounted tonight. It's kinda tough to see with the posts holding the mount in place. It's a ram mount tough claw holding the bottom of the transducer. Then a ram mount arm runs to a 2x6 ram ball mount that I mounted on my transom with marine JB Weld. It shouldn't take much to stabilize the transducer and have everything work as it should.

I'll sand up the dripping weld and spray everything green again tomorrow.

I'll let you know how it works.

So you got a ram mount to fix the ram mount that doesn't work like you want it to?

I've got about $5 into this one, including that new hitch pin :D

Trust me, had I known the first mount wouldn't be rigid enough I would have gone a different route. I still like that this one is clean and removable, but I've got way too much money into mounting a transducer. I don't have an aluminum welder though so...

Gotta get by I guess.

I did the RAM mount and mine are removed when not in use. I didn't want anything hardwired.

Me either. I take mine off also. Super easy to do yet. I'll let you know how much this helps stabilize the transducer. Should take care of the problem.

Coe, does yours cut out at a certain speed too?
