Took my oldest son out to shoot his 410. he was surprised by the difference from the 22 round. He's dead set on hunting youth day so im doing everything to make it happen. Im gonna try and get a shorter stock and a butt pad he wasn't crazy about the kick(hence the hard shoulder rub) but he didnt have it squared on his shoulder and it doesnt have anything as far as padding. He also refuses to admit it hurt lol. He just turned 6 and aint the biggest, proud of my boy though!

Thanks JLACOUR for letting us shoot at your peoples place!

Fck a 4-10. They kick way worse than a 20. Especially if its synthetic. I ended up buying my boy a cheap 20 and cutting it down for him. He liked it way better. Glad he finally grew into a youth size now.

20 gauge is too heavy for him to hold. I let him shoulder my old singleshot 20 and it was still a little to big for him. Owell, we'll see. Boy needs to eat more!

Is the 4-10 synthetic? If so put sand in ziplock bags and pack the butt stock. That helps with the recoil quite a bit.

I bought my son the weatherby 20ga auto synthetic. Real lite. And with 2 3/4 low brass kicks less than his 410 did.

My Uncles would get drunk and make me and my cousins shoot a 10 gauge. Lol.

Awesome! I know you are going to be proud when he shoots his first duck! I can't wait until mine is old enough to start going!

after my son wore out a Mossberg pump I bought him this - it has a short stock and full size stock - don't rush him at 6 my son was just a passenger and a duck hunt was just a boat ride out to the islands don't worry they grow fast

Yea, definitely not trying to push this on him. This was all him, I'm just trying to make it happen. We'll see how it goes if all else he can tag along.

No matter what your children shoot, make sure he is looking where the gun is pointing. Gun fit for kids is important. Plus he will get discouraged when he missed and will remember it forever when he folds a teal first thing in the morning.

Last yr my 9yo got on a roll an killed 12 cans one morning. He got on a roll and nobody else would shoot when the cans came thru. He got our limit for us. Had more fun watching that than I did when we got a dozen green heads. It's awesome. I hope y'all have a good time hunting together.
