I just noticed that you have a jet motor...

Does the impeller get f-ed up in the shallow water

I used to do that all the time in my old 90hp 3-cylinder Merc. My mechanic told me one time that they had a different kind of pump/larger lines or something different than other outboards. I don't know about that but we always had some thin wire to clean out the pee hole and just kept running. It was a hard motor to kill. I've heard all the new outboards are not as mud tolerant.

No, the impellor gets f-ed up chewing up the gravel I run it through. LOL
The intake grate gets smashed hitting rocks the size of VWs at 30 mph. They live 2" below the surface.

I've actually taken pretty good care of this rig. When we do run a flat like this I make sure we are peeing and running cool before we get out of there. I keep wire to un-clog the pee line and make sure we didn't clog it. I have a water flush adapter that I hook up when I get back and flush it for 30 minutes or so.

When I took that pic I had 4 men, one kid, two dogs and a light hunting load. The guys are probably 175, 220, 260 and one at pushing 375 or so. Kid weighs in the 80s. One dog at 72, one at 65.

27mph on the GPS in deep water.

Get a longer pee hose and run it through the cowling without the end on it, the fitting on the end is what clogs most of the time. Also you can cut the centers out of your thermostats to keep them from hangging up, but don't just remove them, only the center you need to have some restriction.

I have a 25 Mariner that is 17 years old. Had it pissing out streams of mud 100's of times to the point only steam came out. At that point stopping is not an option, finding open water ASAP is. Never had any motor work done to it, and the compression check was as if the motor were new. One of my mudmotor friends said it should have a place in the outboard motor hall of fame (if there were a place).
