Took this pic and thought it looked cool. I was amazed how shallow the entire bay system was. Other than the intercoastal, nothing was over 2 foot deep. Most of it was under a foot. The gtr never let me down. |

I grew up fishing those bays every summer. Most beautiful waters on the Texas Coast......Some damn good fishing!!! My Grandmother lived between Port Mansfield and Port Isabel on the Arroyo Colorado River. I would ride a bus from Victoria down there and spend all Summer fishing and parting in Matamoros Mexico or South Padre Island. |

did you have any problems with the fishcops concerning the submerged grass and running a mud motor? I want to bring my rig down, but someone told me there were a lot of laws to look into. |

No problems at all. No laws I'm aware of. Flats boats running everywhere. |

We rent a house in Mansfield every year for years now. Aint never had a problem with the locals or the possum cops for that matter. I gotta get my Mansfield on pretty soon. Go in the spring though and it is a crap shoot with the SE wind. |

Grass beds around Rockport and Aransas are protected in some areas. I went down there last year when I move to TX and 2 guys came up to me at the gas station looking at my boat and motor. One of them asked if I had fished here before. I told him no, just trying to learn area. He was a dik and said folks around didn't like these motors and I would find out for myself if I ran on the grass. I calmly told Mr. Dik that I was going fishing, not trying to tear up his grass and this motor would not tear up nearly as much grass as my Yamaha 250 would running across their little grass beds. Mr. Dik grumbled you'll see as he went to his truck. We didn't see any areas but they are around. Don't know about Mansfield - Isabel area thought. Looks Beautiful. I want to check it out soon. Let me know Coe if you need somebody to make that trip and give you some pointers. ![]() |
