Need Advice on GD Duck Boat; Price, Performance, Motor
I have not been on MMT for quite a while and had no intentions of buying another mud boat, however, I ran into a private owner that has a 1998 GD Duck Boat 16X56, good trailer, and a 20hp Honda LT (galvanized frame). Everything is in "good condition" and the boat has some xtras like trolling motor, depth finder, bilge pump, ect.. Unknown hours on the motor and does not have a tiny tach.
He is asking $2700, but he will most likely take $2000 or less maybe for the entire rig. Is $2000 a good deal? I have no clue about the value of GD boats in general.
If I purchase, that 20hp LT will have to go asap. Can that 1656 handle the 35 GDSD? What kinda speeds can I expect and load carrying capabilities? and overall performance w / a GDSD motor on a GD Duck boat?
Thanks...

If it's in good condition, then it sounds like a pretty good price to me. Go-Devil hulls, like other mud boat hulls, hold their value pretty well as long as they are in good condition, especially the hull (i.e. no hooks/dents in the bottom).
Also, I don't see why that hull wouldn't handle the 35GDSD like a champ. Gigafowl would probably know better than i would though. As far as speeds, I run a 23 GDSD on my 1644 GD hull and i can run in the low 20s without a problem. I would think a 35 on that hull would easily run up near 30 or in the low 30s depending on the load.

You can check with smokeeater I think he is running that size hull with a 35gdsd, he can give you some numbers. Hell he'll probably post something in the am anyway. If its all in good shape if you can get it for 2K thats a good deal i reckon.

I love the way my GD 16x48 works with 35 GDSD - install an auto bilge pump for those inevitable lil washovers - get the battery an fuel up front for balance - runs 30 mph plus solo 28 mph with 2 200lb guys an gear - serious muddin not really possible with 3 200lb guys in a 16 footer - however should run 20 mph with 4 guys...

Because of the width, itll take a 35sd. That hull for that year, if im not mistaken is only .100 guage alluminum. So dont hit a log hard. Being that thickness...check the bottom of the boat for hooks. Sounds like a good deal though. check the seals on the LT at the two ends of the shaft for grease.

I'm running that rig with a 35GDSD. My best speed so far has been 29.4. That was by myself. I usually run around 25 or so. Overall I like my setup, just wish I was getting better speeds.
And as far as the water splashing over the transom, I don't have a problem with it. But it may be just from stick time.

Cheap ole' bastard would not take $2000 for that rig. I checked the transom and its stamped 16X56 .125. He got a new battery and cleaned the carb out on the Honda..runs like a top. Might offer him $2250.00 next week...still a good deal.

$2700 is already a good deal. i wouldnt try to low ball him to much if any. low offers can sometimes turn into an insult and completely eliminate your chances of him sellin it to you.
