Newbie here Q which one 40hp kohler MB or PD 36
Hi People new to the board but not to mud motors... I am a welder who builds custom aluminum duck boats... I am building my self a new one starting this week a 6 ft x 16 ft x 18 in so I am buying a new motor... I have had a GD surface drive like it but no neutral ..... Had a 35 hyper back in 05 liked it so my new boat will be built with a short transom and I like the Pd 36 but wanted to here from you guys input on the kohler 40 MD give my your thoughts.... I am pulling the trigger end of this week on one thank you
Fred the welder

Go with a CDI Briggs over the K40 if you go MB. Has more power than the 35 and there is alot of mods avaialble for that motor.
With either- go with a tall transom to eliminate backwash. If you go with the PD with reverse, do a tall transom for sure.

I hunt the great lakes very dangerous place to hunt if your motor fails in any way so no Mods for me just want durability and go every time dependability

Mods don't equal grenade. Just depends on what you do.
Stock motors fail from time to time too.
