 Re: first rig
Man a lil riveted jon and a 10 to 23 hp LT - is a great way to start....
The LT will plow wet cement and get 'er done....
The SD is a more fun boat year round - though - but they cost more cause you wanna get a first class slick bottom hull to get the best performance... etc etc...
Test drive - test drive - test drive.... Post up yer location you might get a ride or two from some MMT members...
After season there will be a lot of nice used rigs for sale....

 Re: first rig
Why don't you just give Uncle J a call he shuld be able to tell you which of his boats will work best with that motor. That's what I would do.

 Re: first rig
I had a 27 GDSD on a Weldbilt 17x42 - true slick bottom mudboat...
It was .90 thick so it had more dents and hooks than a trotline - before I got it - and got a few more afterwards.... Boat was light - only weighed about 350 lbs and performance was great for 2 guys and gear... Ran right around 29 mph solo - 27mph with 2 - 25mph with 2 and a bunch of gear...
Really liked that size and weight hull with the 27 GDSD....
