Post Bowfishing Report + GTR vs Oyster Reefs
Back from a 2 nite bowfishing trip to Hopedale, LA for a bachelor party. The tide bottom'ed out each night testing the new rig on the oyster reefs. 3 veteran shooters shot 11 reds & 1 darkey drum on Fri night. The other Mud Unit rig shot 7 even with the 4 drunk shooters. The 2nd nite had 3 guys who never been before shoot 1 sheepshead. My skeg took a beating from the oysters but the prop did well. Anybody else change their GTR skeg because of this? Should GT offer a SS replacement skeg or would this not give as much as an aluminum? Would a rock guard solve this problem? The boat was basically brand new before this trip...ouch.

Thats some good shooting. Just roll with the skeg. Rock guard will help, but the main problem is the prop. Mine caught hell the other night. Chewed up some mighty good oysters. Didn't expect them or I would have put my old prop on. Now I got 2 worn props.

Your just lucky you didn't come home with a "serated blade" for a prop....

Or a garred up hull botom from an "ouch" there's the reef, sudden impact....

Sounds like some fine shootin - wish that was legal in Texas.....

The rock gaurd would prevent a lot of that.

If you think yours is bad you should see mine!

I probably have lost a 1/2" inch off of mine from doing the same thing. Cocodrie oyster shells are a mutha.
I wouldn't worry about it. Run it and have fun.

IMHO stay off the oyster reef when bowfishing. hit the shallow ponds.
I've gone bowfishing every weekend between june and july and always shot limits without going on the oyster reefs.
The oysters put more wear and tear on the motor and the arrows. It isn't worth it if the reds are in shallow ponds with mud bottoms.
but as long as you had fun is all that really matters.

Oh yeah, that little torque tab (or whatever ya'll call it) took an ass whoopin and is barely hanging on. Not sure if not having one will affect me with remote steer. Also, anyone have any pics of a GTR rock guard?

As long as you have hydro steering, you will be fine.

That's just a few scratches. If I had to replace everything that was scratched I would need a new motor after every trip!
