Help me make a motor decision
Looking to purchase my first mud motor. Several of my friends have longtails and surface drives and I have hunted with them on their boats for a few years now. I want to buy a surface drive but do not know what I want. With reverse not being an issue, what is the fastest, most powerful, best for running in grass and shallow water motor? It will be for about a 16-17' Gator tail or Uncle J boat. What motor is the most powerful stock? Which motor is the best/easiedt to mod? Any input will help. Thanks guys

Re: Help me make a motor decision
Pintail ---- thanks for the help. I will be running a little of everything but mostly shallow water that is full of vegetation. I was already leaning toward the prodrive because of the full power reverse so if it is a better motor for vegetation like you say then i am leaning toward it even more now.

Re: Help me make a motor decision
I was in some shit the other day that I know for a fact a GTR would have had a hell of a time backing out of. If I had the money I would have both (PD & GTR) I run thick nasty vegetation and just don't see anything backing up like the Pd in the some places. Me and the other PD folks need to make some videos...LOL

Re: Help me make a motor decision
We have 1000's of boat launches around here. Out of everyone of them you can find any kind of stuff you want to run. Some things are tunable some thing are not. Is their even water lilies in fla. Lol

Re: Help me make a motor decision
I been in it all,,,mud vegitation...floats.etc etc...I WILL SAY THIS....LILLIES ARE THE DEVIL!!!
Whent the tide falls they pile up so tic,,,i seen a mud boat with a subaru burn up his clutch trying to get through,,,and a mud boat with a 350 barely make it through...
Trust me,,,,you can almost get out and walk on the side of shit this mud boat will go though!!!! He had enough power to push the whole float!!! But the lillies gave him trouble..
I will also add,,,the GTR Couldnt move in this!!! Stuck like chuck....at least i could back out!!! Maybe a product of know how,,i dont really know, but he ran his ass in there behind the mudboat and stayed unitll that dude came back and pulled him out!
